Both of the Dutch archers from the 1980 competition returned in 1984. Both shot much higher scores than they had four years earlier, but the field was more competitive with the return of many nations that had boycotted, and both dropped out of the top eight.

The People's Republic of China competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States. It was the first appearance at the Summer Games for the country after its mostly symbolic presence at the Summer Games in 1952 during which the dispute between the Republic of China and the PRC resulted in the former withdrawing all its athletes. After 1952 and until these games, the PRC boycotted the Olympics due to the Taiwan's presence as the Republic of China. In 1984, the Republic of China competed as Chinese Taipei and the PRC competed as China. Due to the then ongoing Sino-Soviet split, China did not participate in the Soviet-led boycott. In the previous games, China participated the United States-led boycott to protest the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, becoming the only communist country to boycott Olympics held by another communist country.

Margot Wilhelmina ("Wilma") Teunisje van Velsen is a former butterfly and freestyle swimmer from The Netherlands, who twice competed for her country at the Summer Olympics, starting in 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Union. There she won the bronze medal in the 4×100 m freestyle relay, alongside Conny van Bentum, Annelies Maas and Reggie de Jong. Four years later in Los Angeles, United States she was a member of the silver winning team in the same event, although she just swam in the qualifying heats to bring The Netherlands to the final. There the team was made up by Conny van Bentum, Desi Reijers, Annemarie Verstappen, and Elles Voskes.
Peter Willem Drost is a former freestyle swimmer from the Netherlands, who competed at the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics. His best individual result came in 1984, when he finished in seventh place (7:26.72) in the 4×200 m freestyle relay, alongside his younger brother Frank, Hans Kroes and Edsard Schlingemann. He is not related to Monique Drost, who is also a retired swimmer who competed at the 1980 Olympics.
