Initially Albert Lévy Themans was selected to be part of the team. However, due to a heavy strike at his factory, Lévy Themans had to withdraw at the last moment. He was replaced by Edwin Teixeira de Mattos. [1]

Edwin Teixeira de Mattos was a Dutch bobsledder. He competed in the four-man event at the 1928 Winter Olympics. At the last moment he was selected for the team, after Albert Lévy Themans had to withdraw due to heavy strikes at his factory. He was the flagbearer, and so the first Dutch at the Olympic Winter Games.
