Archery at the 1984 Summer Olympics was contested in the format used since 1972. There were two events: men's individual and women's individual. Points were in a format called the double FITA round, which included 288 arrows shot over four days at four different distances: 70 meters, 60 meters, 50 meters, 30 meters for women; 90 meters, 70 meters, 50 meters, 30 meters for men. It was the fourth, and last, time that the format was used in Olympic competition. [1]

Neroli Fairhall from New Zealand, who came 35th in the Women's individual event, was the first paraplegic athlete to compete at the Olympic Games.

Shooting sports is a group of competitive and recreational sporting activities involving proficiency tests of accuracy, precision and speed in shooting — the art of using ranged weapons, mainly small arms and bows/crossbows.

One hundred twenty-eight archers from forty-six nations competed in the four gold medal events—individual and team events for men and for women—that were contested at these games.

The men's individual was an archery event held as part of the Archery at the 1992 Summer Olympics programme. The event took place between 31 July and 3 August 1992. 75 archers competed. As with other archery events at the Olympics, the event featured the recurve discipline.

The men's ISSF 50 meter pistol was one of the thirteen shooting events at the 1988 Summer Olympics. It was the second Olympic free pistol competition to feature final shooting, after an abortive attempt in 1960. There were 43 competitors from 31 nations. Nations had been limited to two shooters each since the 1952 Games. The event was won by Sorin Babii of Romania, the nation's first victory in the event and first medal in free pistol since 1972. Ragnar Skanåker of Sweden repeated as silver medalist, the second man to earn three medals in the free pistol; four years later, he would become the first to win four medals. Soviet Igor Basinski took bronze.

The archery competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris took place over seven days, from 25 July to 4 August, at Les Invalides. 128 archers competed across five events, with the mixed team recurve returning to the Olympic program for the second time.
