In 1995, she moved to Singapore and in the following year, she commenced her international career as a competitive table tennis player. She became a Singapore citizen at the age of 18 years under the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme.

Minarni was an Indonesian badminton player who won major titles around the world and who represented her country internationally between 1959 and 1975. In 1968, Minarni became the first Indonesian to reach the final of women's singles at the All England Open, and with Retno Kustijah formed the first of only two Indonesian women's doubles teams yet to capture the All England Open title. She also won titles at the Indonesian National Championships, the quadrennial Asian Games, the Asian Championships, and at the Malaysia, U.S., Canada, Singapore, and New Zealand Opens. Minarni first played in the then triennial Uber Cup competition for Indonesia in her mid teens (1959). In her last Uber Cup campaign (1974-1975) her excellent doubles play helped Indonesia to win its first women's world team title.

Wang Yuegu is a retired Chinese-born Singaporean table tennis player who was ranked among the top ten players in the world. Wang made her inaugural appearance as a Singaporean table tennis player on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pro Tour in June 2005 at the Volkswagen Korean Open in Suncheon, South Korea, where she and Sun Beibei took the silver medal in the women's doubles. On 24 September 2006, Wang achieved her first gold medal on the Pro Tour at the Japan Open in Yokohama. She repeated the feat against her compatriot Li Jiawei on 12 November at the ITTF Pro Tour German Open in Bayreuth. A badminton tournament was held at the 1999 Southeast Asian Games in Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex, Bandar Seri Begawan from 8 to 14 August 1999. Both men and women competed in their own team, singles, and doubles events and together they competed in a mixed doubles event.

She won gold at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, and two bronze medals at the World Championships in 2018 and 2019. Rahayu also won bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games in the women's team and doubles with her former partner Greysia Polii.

Corry Kawilarang is a former Indonesian badminton player from the 1960s.

The Asian Badminton Championships 1985 took place from 15 to 21 April in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Both individual competitions and men's team competition were conducted. At the end of day, China took titles from three disciplines, Men's singles, Women's singles and Men's team competitions while South Korea won Men's doubles and Women's doubles events.
