Gastón Gaudio defeated Guillermo Coria in the final, 0–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–1, 8–6 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 French Open. Gaudio became the first Argentine to win a major since Guillermo Vilas at the 1979 Australian Open. Gaudio came back from two sets to love down, saved two championship points, and broke Coria's serve twice when the latter served for the championship.

Novak Djokovic defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 7–6(7–2) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2008 Australian Open. It was his first major title, the first of a record nine Australian Open titles, and the first of 20 major men's singles titles overall. Djokovic became the first Serbian man to win a major singles title. It was the first major final since the 2005 Australian Open not to feature either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal, who were beaten by Djokovic and Tsonga, respectively, in the semifinals. Alongside second-seeded Nadal, Tsonga defeated three more seeds en route to the final, including ninth-seed Andy Murray.

Three-time defending champion Rafael Nadal successfully defended his title, defeating Roger Federer in the final 6–1, 6–3, 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2008 French Open. It was his fourth French Open title and his fourth Major title overall. This marks Federer's worst loss at a Grand Slam match in his entire career. It also marked the third consecutive year that Nadal defeated Federer in the French Open final, and the fourth consecutive year that Nadal defeated Federer at Roland Garros. On all four occasions that Nadal won the French Open, he defeated Federer while the latter was the world No. 1 player. Nadal won the title without losing a set, becoming the third man in the Open Era after Ilie Năstase and Björn Borg to do so. He would later replicate this feat in 2010, 2017, and 2020.

Sergiy Stakhovsky Ukrainian tennis player

Sergiy Eduardovych Stakhovsky is a Ukrainian former professional tennis player. Stakhovsky turned professional in 2003 and had been playing mostly at the Challenger level from 2005 to 2008. His career-high singles ranking is World No. 31 and he has reached as high as No. 33 in doubles.

The women's singles table tennis event was a part of the table tennis program at the 2008 Summer Olympics and took place at the Peking University Gymnasium. The tournament started on August 18 with the final on August 22.

Russia's Elena Dementieva defeated compatriot Dinara Safina in the final, 3–6, 7–5, 6–3 to win the gold medal in Women's Singles tennis at the 2008 Summer Olympics. In the bronze medal match, Russia's Vera Zvonareva defeated China's Li Na 6–0, 7–5. This was the first Olympic medal sweep in tennis since 1908, when only British women played in the outdoor women's singles tournament. It was Russia's first victory in the women's singles. Dementieva became the third woman to win multiple Olympic singles medals, following Steffi Graf and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, and the first to do so in non-consecutive Games.

Defending champion Serena Williams defeated Vera Zvonareva in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 2010 Wimbledon Championships. It was her fourth Wimbledon singles title and 13th major singles title overall. She did not lose a set during the tournament. Zvonareva reached her first ever major singles final, and became the second lowest-ranked woman to contest a Wimbledon singles final.

These are the results of the women's singles competition, one of two events for female competitors in table tennis at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

Serena Williams defeated defending champion Maria Sharapova in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2013 French Open. It was her second French Open singles title, her 16th major singles title overall, and she completed the Double Career Grand Slam in women's singles with the win. She also became the oldest woman to win the French Open and set a record for the longest gap between French Open titles. With the win, Williams expanded her win-streak to 31 matches, dating back to the Miami Open. She lost only one set during the tournament, that being to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarterfinals.

Li Na defeated Dominika Cibulková in the final, 7–6(7–3), 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2014 Australian Open. Li became the first Asian Australian Open champion and sixth woman to win the title after being match point down.
