Terry Coldwell (born 21 July 1974) is a British singer, who is a member of East 17. He is the only constant member of the band and the sole original member since 2018. [1] [2]
Coldwell was born in London in 1974. [3] As a child he worked as a paper boy and at age fifteen worked in a market stall. [2] [4] In 1991, sixteen year old Coldwell was signed to London records to be a part of a new group put together by Tony Mortimer. [4] [5] Naming themselves after their Walthamstow postcode, the boyband had eleven top 10 hits in the UK. [6] [7] Coldwell mainly rapped, sang backing vocals, and served as backing dancer. [8] The groups only number one, "Stay Another Day", was a chart topper for five weeks and was Christmas number one in the UK in 1994. [7]
Coldwell went solo during the groups short hiatus, before reuniting as E–17 in 1998. Coldwell has returned for many East 17 reunions, and is the only constant original member. He still tours in the group but as of 2018 is the only founding member, [9] who now tours with Artful Dodger collaborator Robbie Craig and John Livermore, a lineup he claims brings "back the nostalgia of the 90s to people". [10]
In 2023, Coldwell was disqualified from a radio karaoke show for singing Stay Another Day; disc jockey Justin Dealey kicked him out for being too authentic. [1] [11]
He lives in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. [12] He and his wife, Faye Satterly, have six children, the latest child being born on 17 December 2022. [13]
