Daniel John Tyminski is an American bluegrass composer, vocalist, and instrumentalist. He is a member of Alison Krauss's band Union Station, and has released three solo albums, Carry Me Across the Mountain (2000), on the Doobie Shea Records label, Wheels (2008), on the Rounder Records label, and Southern Gothic (2017). on the Mercury Records label.

As the title suggests, the album was recorded live at a Texas Nights North house concert in Dallas, Texas, on May 11, 2001. Bell offered no apology for his DIY effort, saying upon the album's release about the burgeoning opportunities offered by CD-Rs: "If you've got something to say, or you play it just like you talk it, there's no better way for an author of music/lyric to keep the art form alive. You shouldn't have to ask permission of any record label to put your foot in it. After a treasured saying, 'If you are led by authority, you are led by a halter.'"

According to Bell: "Recado is a collection of messages that wind like a long dirt road through the years of my writing. There's one about taking chances in Berkeley while I collaborated with Bob Neuwirth on my first album, Phoenix. Altogether they portray at least a couple of lifetimes of lyric like I like it, with music that says the same thing."
