The Adventure Project (sometimes referred to as TAP) is a nonprofit organization that creates jobs in developing countries in an effort to end poverty. The organization was founded in 2010. [1]

History

Becky Straw and Jody Landers met in Liberia and founded TAP in 2010. [2] Becky Straw had a degree in International Social Welfare from Columbia University and had worked for UNICEF and charity: water. [3]

The Adventure Project has been covered by a variety of media outlets, including Fast Company, [4] the Huffington Post, [5] and Upworthy. [6]

In 2015, co-founders Landers and Straw received the Diane von Furstenberg People’s Voice Award. [7]

Google.org, founded in October 2005, is the charitable arm of Google, a multinational technology company. The organization has committed roughly US$100 million in investments and grants to nonprofits annually.

Yves Béhar Swiss designer, entrepreneur, and sustainability advocate

Yves Béhar is a Swiss designer, entrepreneur and an educator. He is the founder and principal designer of Fuseproject, an industrial design and brand development firm. Béhar is also co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of August, a smart lock company recently acquired by Assa Abloy, and he is co-founder of Canopy, a new co-working space based in San Francisco.

Toms Shoes Footwear company based in Los Angeles, California

Toms is a for-profit company based in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie, an entrepreneur from Arlington, Texas, the company designs and markets shoes as well as eyewear, coffee, apparel and handbags.

UNICEF Tap Project

The UNICEF Tap Project was a nationwide campaign that provides children in impoverished nations with access to safe, clean water. The campaign culminated during World Water Week, celebrating the United Nations’ World Water Day, March 22.

Peter Thum is an American businessman. He has founded several companies and not for profit organizations. Thum is best known for creating the brand Ethos Water and leading the company as its president through its acquisition by Starbucks.

Blake Mycoskie is an American entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist. He is the founder of Toms Shoes and co-founder of Madefor.

Thirst Project

The Thirst Project is a non-profit organization whose aim is to bring safe drinking water to communities around the world where it is not immediately available. The Thirst Project raises money and builds Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene projects in communities that do not have immediate access to safe, clean drinking water. Actors Drake Bell, Ansel Elgort, Dylan O'Brien, Jennifer Lawrence and Chyler Leigh are supporters, as were the late Cameron Boyce and Naya Rivera. Cameron Boyce alone raised over $30,000 for Thirst Project, followed by another $15,000 raised in honor of Boyce in a fundraiser organized by Adam Sandler after Boyce's death by SUDEP.

Upworthy is a website dedicated to positive storytelling. It was started in March 2012 by Eli Pariser, the former executive director of MoveOn, and Peter Koechley, the former managing editor of The Onion. One of Facebook's co-founders, Chris Hughes, was an early investor. In 2017, the company was acquired by Good Worldwide. Between the two platforms, they reached 100MM people a month.

Hult Prize international prize for social enterprise

The Hult Prize is an annual, year-long competition that crowd-sources ideas from university level students after challenging them to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food security, water access, energy, and education. It was founded by a group of Hult International Business School MBAs and is funded by Bertil Hult, the latter of whom, along with his family – founders of EF Education First – donates US$1 million in seed capital to help the winning team launch a social enterprise.

The DVF Awards, supported by The Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation, are given annually to provide recipients with the exposure and resources necessary to extend their efforts on behalf of women all over the world. The DVF Awards were conceived by Diane von Furstenberg in 2010 with the goal of honoring women who have displayed leadership, strength, and courage in their commitment to their causes. Every year, each Honoree receives a $50,000 grant from the Foundation to further their work. The inaugural DVF Awards were presented on March 13, 2010 at a ceremony hosted by Diane von Fürstenberg and Tina Brown at the United Nations on the closing night of The Women in the World Summit. Each year, two DVF Awards are given to women within The Vital Voices Global Partnership. In addition, the Inspiration Award is given to a woman who has demonstrated strength and courage in the face of adversity, and is using her experience and influence to effect positive change. The People's Voice Award is also given annually to a woman chosen from a field of nominees selected by The DVF Awards Board of Advisors and voted on by the public at DVFAwards.com. The Lifetime Leadership Award honors an individual who has dedicated her life and body of work to instilling in other women the courage to fight, the power to survive and the leadership to inspire. Past recipients include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Gloria Steinem, Ingrid Betancourt, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Robin Roberts.

Ideapod is a social media platform founded in 2013 by Mark Bakacs and Justin Brown who describe the company as a "technology company that produces media". The company's stated mission is to, in the creators' words, "foster discussions about big ideas" and elevate the level of social discourse online and offline by allowing people to express their views and share ideas with others on matters of concern to them. Ideapod was created to enable the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and the world, for the better. It features noted institutions such as the United Nations on its website, and is used by Jason Silva of Nat Geo's Brain Games series. Ideapod received an endorsement and assistance for funding from Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group. As of August 2016, its user base is at 300,000.

SHE Media is an American digital media company. It operates the website properties BlogHer, SheKnows.com, STYLECASTER, and HelloFlo. It has been a brand of Penske Media Corporation since 2018.

Elisabeth Mason

Elisabeth Mason is an American lawyer and venture philanthropist. She is the Founding Director of the Stanford Technology, Opportunity and Poverty Lab at Stanford University. She is also the co-founder and former Chief Executive Officer of Single Stop USA, a nonprofit that promotes economic mobility by connecting people to untapped US Government benefits.

William H. Clapp is a social entrepreneur, philanthropist, business executive and founder and former chairman of the Matthew G. Norton Company, a property management firm based in Seattle. He is also the founder, along with his wife Paula, of Global Partnerships, Global Washington, and Seattle International Foundation.

GivePower is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that develops clean water and energy systems in communities across the world. GivePower has installed 2,650 solar power installations in villages across 17 different countries and in underdeveloped areas of the United States.

Plastic Bank is a for-profit social enterprise founded and based in Vancouver, British Columbia, that builds recycling ecosystems in under-developed communities in an effort to fight both plastic pollution in oceans, as well as high poverty levels in developing countries. The company allows people living in poverty to collect plastic and trade it in for material goods such as school tuition, medical insurance, pharmaceutical access, internet access, and cooking fuel, with the aim of adding more benefits to their program in the future. Plastic Bank reprocesses collected plastics for reintroduction into the supply chain. They currently have operations in the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, and Egypt, with plans to expand into Colombia and Vietnam in the coming years
