The Black Maria was a Canadian rock band from Toronto, named after the notorious vans used by police to transport prisoners in the early 20th century (most often referred to as a paddywagon).
The Black Maria was formed in November 2002 and, in 2003, independently released the EP The Black Maria. [1] At the time, band members included vocalist Chris Gray, guitarists Alan Nacinovic and Kyle Bishop, keyboardist and bassist Mike De Eyre, and drummer Derek Petrella. Their first show was in Toronto in 2003.
They signed with Victory Records in 2004 and recorded their debut album, Lead Us To Reason, [2] [3] [4] [5] at Signal To Noise Studios with producer Mike Green. Lead Us to Reason was released on January 25, 2005 and did well, selling upwards of 50,000 copies and opening the door to tours with several successful bands, including Aiden, Alexisonfire and Eighteen Visions. [6] [7] By the end of the Lead Us To Reason tour, Bishop and the other members were not getting along and he left the band. [8] Ex-Damn 13 guitarist Mike Charette filled in, until Bishop was replaced by Scott Swain. [9]
The Black Maria was a winner of Yahoo! Music's "Who's Next?" at LAUNCHcast. Adam Veselisin played drums on the Who's Next video and, through April 2005, filled in on drums when Petrella broke his arm and the band played shows with Zao, The Juliana Theory, Rise Against and Alexisonfire. Petrella then left the band and was replaced by Theo McKibbon.
In September 2006, The Black Maria released the album A Shared History of Tragedy , which was written and produced by Swain and McKibbon. The CD artwork was done by Oliver Nacinovic. It sold slightly less than Lead Us To Reason but was received warmly by critics. [10] [11]
The band also played with Queens of the Stone Age, MxPx, The Distillers, Goldfinger, [12] Paramore, Rise Against, Silverstein, The Alkaline Trio, [13] The Lawrence Arms, Chevelle, Taproot, [14] and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. They joined Evanescence (and Stone Sour) for their January 2007 in Ottawa. [15]
The band announced its break-up in mid-2007. (A group of New Mexico musicians formed a band of the same name--they are not connected.) [16] [17]

Chevelle is an American rock band formed in Grayslake, Illinois, in 1995. The band was originally composed of two brothers, Pete Loeffler and Sam Loeffler, along with Matt Scott. Scott was replaced by Sam and Pete's brother, Joe Loeffler, in 1996. When Joe left the band in 2005, Geno Lenardo subbed in as the touring bassist until he was replaced by Pete and Sam's brother-in-law, Dean Bernardini. Bernardini departed from the band in 2019, and in 2021, Kemble Walters joined the band as a touring bassist.
Alexisonfire is a Canadian post-hardcore band formed in St. Catharines, Ontario in 2001. The band's members are George Pettit (vocals), Dallas Green, Wade MacNeil, Chris Steele (bass) and Jordan Hastings. The band has won numerous awards, and in Canada their albums have all been certified either gold or platinum.
Alexisonfire is the debut studio album from Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire, released on October 31, 2002.
Watch Out! is the second studio album from Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire, released on June 8, 2004. Trainwreck is a concept album about a character known as The Patient murdering his wife, being hospitalized and trying to convey the music he hears in his head. Its emo and pop rock sound incorporated elements of progressive rock, post-hardcore and dream pop.

October Fall was an American pop punk band from Chicago, Illinois. They formed in the summer of 2003, with Pat D'Andrea (vocals/guitar) and Clark Harrison (guitar) as the original members. These two originally played together under the name "Silver Lining". Soon after, the rest of the band was added: Nick Coleman (drums), Owen Toomey (piano), and Jack Marin (bass). Nick Coleman was replaced by Nick Scalise (drums), and Jack Marin was replaced by Greg Shanahan (bass).
