The Chanticleer is Averett University's student-run news magazine. Since 1922, The Chanticleer has provided community news to the students, faculty and staff of Averett. CNM has also be used to refer to the magazine as "Chanticleer News Magazine" or, more recently with the expansion of CNM's initiatives into digital media, "Chanticleer News Media." Dr. Susan Huckstep has served as The Chanticleer's advisor since 2010.

History

The Chanticleer was established in 1922, under the leadership of Dr. Ann Garbett. Its first 32-page issue included references to the Philomathean and Mnemosynean literary societies, poetry and a discussion of the university landscape 63 years into Averett's history. The first issue was dedicated to Miss Nelson Hackett, Art Director:

"To Miss Nelson Hackett, our Director of Art, who has put into visible form the essence of our would-be wit and wisdom, we, the Staff of Chanticleer, with appreciation and affectionate esteem, do dedicate this issue." [1]

In addition to continued print circulation, CNM began publishing issues online with its October 2010.

Layout & Design

The Chanticleer has undergone numerous redesigns during its 89-year run including newspaper formats and an oversized magazine layout. As of Fall 2017, the publication runs at a digest size of 8.5" x 11". [2]

The State Press is the independent, student-operated news publication of Arizona State University. In August 2014, it became an all-digital publication. The Fairfield Mirror is the student newspaper of Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. It is a student-run publication that publishes weekly on Wednesdays during the academic year with additional issues during commencement and orientation. Averett University

Averett University is a private Baptist college in Danville, Virginia. Founded in 1859 as a women's college, Averett became a 4-year, coeducational institution in 1969. In 2011 the university restored its Baptist affiliation, renewing a relationship that had existed from Averett's founding until 2005.

The Metropolitan, or The Met as it is commonly called, is the school newspaper of Metropolitan State University of Denver. It has a weekly press run of 700 copies, which are distributed every Wednesday to more than 60 locations across the Auraria Campus and select locations in downtown Denver. The paper is a tabloid style publication with sections for news, sports, opinions, features and music. It focuses on issues of interest and concern to students at Metro and the other colleges located on the Auraria Campus.

<i>The Pitt News</i>

The Pitt News is an independent, student-written and student-managed newspaper for the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland which has been active in some form since 1910. It is published Monday through Friday during the regular school year and Wednesdays during the summer. According to an independent survey, more than 90% of Pitt students read The Pitt News each day.

The Indiana Daily Student (IDS) is an independent, student-run newspaper that has been published for the community of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, since 1867. The IDS is free and distributed throughout the campus and city.

The following is a list of print media and broadcast media contained within the greater Albuquerque metropolitan area, and some media in adjacent Santa Fe which also targets Albuquerque.

<i>The Daily Mississippian</i>

The Daily Mississippian, commonly called The DM, is the award-winning student newspaper of the University of Mississippi. The first issue of The Mississippian was published in 1911. It is operated as an independent student-run newspaper, and is published in print four days a week and online daily. It publishes Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the fall and spring semesters, and occasionally during the June and July summer terms. It has a daily print circulation of 9,000 during fall and spring. It is also the only college newspaper in Mississippi to be a full member of the state press association, and it competes in the Mississippi Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest against professional daily newspapers.

Cardinal Courier Media, or CCM, is the overseeing body of several media outlets at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, New York. CCM was founded in 2007 but has roots that date back to 2002.

<i>UWM Post</i>

The UWM Post is a student newspaper independently run by the students of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Published weekly in print from 1915 to 2012, it became independently operated in 1956. The newspaper published a new issue every Monday during the fall and spring semesters and was distributed both on campus and in the Greater Milwaukee metropolitan area.

<i>The Zamboni</i> (magazine)

The Zamboni is a student-run humor publication at Tufts University. It was founded in 1989 and comes out with six issues per year, or once per month. It contains satirical articles, cartoons, and photos. It is known as "Tufts University's Only Intentionally Funny Magazine" and its motto is "Cowering Behind the First Amendment Since 1989." The Zamboni is fully funded by the Student Activities Fee as allocated by the Tufts Senate.

<i>Teen Voices</i>

Teen Voices is an intensive journalism, mentoring, and leadership program for teen girls in Boston. Through its program, teens write and create articles for an internationally distributed print and online magazine. Teen Voices has 45,000 print readers and receives more than 275,000 page views from 179 countries annually. The magazine, founded in 1988, focuses on social justice issues and encourages girls to become critical media consumers. It also encourages teen girls around the world to speak out on issues, creates positive and powerful media, and leads change in their communities. Its mission is to support and educate teen girls to amplify their voices and create social change through media.

<i>Montana Kaimin</i> newspaper in Missoula, Montana

The Montana Kaimin is the University of Montana's student-run independent newspaper located in Missoula, Montana. The paper is printed once a week, Wednesday, with special editions printed occasionally. The current editor-in-chief is Cassidy Alexander. The newspaper is divided into four sections, including news, sports, arts and culture, and opinion, and is printed in color.
