The Coast was a Canadian indie rock group, based in Toronto, Ontario. The Coast was Ben Spurr (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Ian Fosbery (guitar, keyboards, vocals), and brothers Luke Melchiorre (bass, vocals) and Jordan Melchiorre (drums).
The band was originally named The July 26th Movement, and released an EP titled Take a Walk Outside in July 2004. [1] The band opted to change their name to The Coast, after the Paul Simon song of the same name [2] (found on Simon's album The Rhythm of the Saints ). The band's original influences included bands such as The Verve, New Order, and The Smiths, but in recent years their interests have become more influenced by their contemporaries.
The Coast released their self-titled EP in Canada in March 2006, and in the US in May 2007. The Coast has shared the stage with the likes of Elbow, The French Kicks, Tokyo Police Club (who also provided a remix of The Coast's song "Tightrope" in 2008), Born Ruffians, Islands, The Duke Spirit, Ra Ra Riot, The Virgins, and Chairlift. The band was touted as one of the acts to watch in 2008 by Canada's national music monthly Exclaim! and Toronto's Eye Weekly . The band signed to Aporia Records in late 2007 and recorded their debut full-length album Expatriate . The album was released on April 1, 2008 in Canada, on August 19, 2008 in the US (digitally), February 2, 2009 in the UK, and May 5, 2009 on CD in the US by their new Minneapolis-based label Afternoon Records. Nationwide tours of Canada and the States followed.
In early 2009, the band did their last tour of the UK and then started their hiatus to take a break from their year and a half of touring. The Coast’s guitarist, Ian Fosbery, also spent this time finishing his university degree – and their bassist, Luke Melchiorre, began work towards his Masters.
During 2009, the Coast also spent every spare moment locked away in their rehearsal space writing and working on new material. In November 2009 they once again entered the Lincoln County Social Club, the same studio in which they recorded Expatriate, with 14 new tracks - the most they've ever tried to record. The album was once again produced with long-time friend and producer Chris Stringer (We're Marching On, Ohbijou, Rush). The 9-track record, entitled Queen Cities, was released in September 2010 by Aporia. Later that year the group announced that they would be disbanding. The Coast played their final show together on December 29, 2010.

The year following they changed their name to White Heart, and eventually changed the name a final time to Heart, in 1973. By the mid-1970s, original members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen had been joined by sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson, Michael Derosier (drums), and Howard Leese to form the lineup for the band's initial mid- to late-1970s success period. These core members were included in the band's 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Protest the Hero is a Canadian progressive metal band from Whitby, Ontario. Originally named Happy Go Lucky, the band changed their name to Protest the Hero, then released their debut EP, Search for the Truth, in 2002. In 2005, the band released their first album Kezia on Canadian indie label Underground Operations.
Wintersleep is a Canadian indie rock band formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2001. Based in Halifax, the band's original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Paul Murphy, guitarist and keyboardist Tim d'Eon, and drummer Loel Campbell. In 2002, Jud Haynes joined the band as bass guitarist until 2007. In 2005, Mike Bigelow joined the band as a keyboardist until 2006, when he then acted as a bass guitarist from 2007 to 2016. Since 2006, Jon Samuel has served as a backing vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist while has Chris Bell served as a backing vocalist and bass guitarist since 2016. Bigelow returned to the band in 2021.

Previously, Mays was a member of a Canadian indie band The Guthries. Mays was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and grew up in Nova Scotia.

In-Flight Safety released their second full-length album We Are an Empire, My Dear 27 January 2009 in Canada on their own label Night Danger. The band released their third full-length album, Conversationalist on 9 September 2014.

Born Ruffians released their debut album Red, Yellow & Blue in 2008, and have since released seven albums in total, including their two most recents records, Juice and Squeeze, both released in 2020.

Expatriate is the debut album from Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based indie rock group The Coast. The album was released in Canada on April 1, 2008 and in the UK on February 9, 2009 via Aporia Records. The album was released digitally in the US on August 19, 2008, and was released on CD on May 5, 2009 by Minneapolis-based indie record label Afternoon Records. Expatriate follows the band's critically acclaimed debut self-titled EP from 2006. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Chris Stringer in late 2007. "Tightrope" was the first single, released on 7" vinyl in 2008 by Magnificent Sevens, and as a promo single in the UK in early February 2009. The Coast toured the US and Canada extensively after the album's initial release.
Here We Go Magic is an American indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. It was formed by core members Luke Temple, Michael Bloch and Peter Hale, in late 2008. The band signed to Western Vinyl in 2008, followed by the five-piece group's signing to Secretly Canadian in 2009.
Givers is an indie pop group from Lafayette, Louisiana. The band is made up of vocalist and percussionist Tiffany Lamson, vocalist and guitarist Taylor Guarisco, and bassist and guitarist Josh LeBlanc. The band's origins date to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which displaced Lamson and Guarisco from their New Orleans apartment and school, leading them to return to Lafayette with little to do. The duo began playing music together, and they recruited the other members shortly before a last-minute performance at a local pub in 2008. The band came together as the result of the unplanned, improvised jam.
