The Dream of the Mad Monkey (Le rêve du singe fou) is a novel by Christopher Frank, published in 1976. It was adapted to film in 1990 as Twisted Obsession . [1]

Christopher Frank was a French writer, film director, and screenwriter. He won the 1972 Prix Renaudot, for La Nuit américaine.

Plot summary

An American screenwriter, Dan Gillis, living in Paris, has been abandoned by his wife. He has a hard time getting used to a new life as a single parent with his son, Danny. He is commissioned by successful producer, Legrand, to write a script. Dan has worked with that same producer in the past. This time though, he is required to write an unconventional story together with Malcolm - a young and unknown film director. Dan hesitates about taking the job, since it as far from the kind of work he usually does. Legrand insists and the intriguing personality of the young director eventually convinces him to accept, even though his agent, the beautiful, disabled Marilyn, advises against it. As soon as he starts working on the script Dan discovers that there is something else behind this job. He becomes painfully aware of and shamelessly intrigued by the incestuous relationship between Malcolm and his beautiful younger sister Jenny. Sexual fantasy and hallucinatory dream sequences lead Malcolm to become obsessed with Jenny as he starts his own investigating of the circumstances behind the making of this particular movie. He ultimately discovers that he has been had and is caught in a haywire of greed and ambition from which he cannot escape. [2] [3]

<i>Eden Is West</i> 2009 film by Costa-Gavras

Eden Is West is a 2009 film by Greek-French director Costa-Gavras about an illegal immigrant called Elias who tries to get to Paris. The original title in Greek is "Paradissos sti Dysi" and since it is a Greek-French production, the also original French title is "Eden à l'ouest'. The nationality of the central hero is not disclosed because Gavras wants to make a point about the odysseys of the illegal immigrants of any nationality, since he himself was an immigrant 50 years ago in France, before he became a well known director. His hero seems to tolerate the sea, the cold of snowy mountains and the hunger, the rapists and robbers he meets, the cops that are after him all the time, the racists who push him aside, the fellow immigrants who steal his clothes and in the best case the women who see him as a lover they could also take advantage of. His only comfort is his dream of Paris and, in the complexity of human condition, the good within the evil and vice versa.

Steven Wasson, is the director of Theatre de l'Ange Fou, and the International School of Corporeal mime. He studied literature and drama at the University of Northern Colorado with Dr. Lloyd Norton, and mime with Dr. E. Reid Gilbert and Thomas Leabhart at the Valley Studio in Madison, Wisconsin. Coming to Paris, he was a student of Étienne Decroux and later became his assistant, participating in Decroux's teaching, research and creations. Decroux created two pieces on Wasson: Le Prophete and Le Duo dans le Parc St. Cloud. Wasson has created and directed all of the plays for the Theatre de l’Ange Fou, and has performed in many of them. He has worked as an actor in film, TV and live radio in the U.S. and France. In 1996, he reconstructed and directed the mime scenes for the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Les Enfants du Paradis. He has also worked with Birmingham Repertory Theatre and in India with the Avatar Meher Baba Theatre. As the director of Shadow Films Ltd., Wasson creates artistic and pedagogical films for the company and the school.
