The Fauxy is an Indian satirical website that publish satirical articles on current events, entertainment, sports and public figures. It has been referred to as India's answer to The Onion.

History

The Fauxy, registered under Prana Online Media Networks LLP, was created by Vinay Sharma and was launched in August 2018. The Fauxy is headquartered in Gurgaon Haryana and has over 50 contributors across India. According to its founder, the website was launched as there was almost no competition to the existing satire website, Faking News.

Shortly after the launch, The Fauxy started getting featured on popular new portals and many of its satirical pieces were mistaken for real news. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Media coverage

During the Russia-Ukraine crisis, many European countries imposed economic sanctions on Russia. The Fauxy wrote a satirical piece taking a dig at Pakistan. The article was mistaken to be true and many international media outlets covered it as real news. [5] [6] [7] [8]

Kangana Ranaut trolled for sharing The Fauxy article Facebook Launches "Mark Yourself Safe From Shivsena Goons" Feature. After that Kangana tweeted on her Twitter account and wrote:

The news have tagged it's account clearly says it's a fictitious news source. Intended for sarcasm and satire.

Faking News, originally started as a form of blog, was an Indian news satire website that published fake news reports containing satire on politics and society of India. It was a critique of mainstream news media in India. The website also published occasional serious articles related to television journalism in India. The website was launched on September 15, 2008.

Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture saying that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, any parody of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied.

<i>The Michigan Every Three Weekly</i>

The Michigan Every Three Weekly, also known simply as The Every Three Weekly, is a student publication at the University of Michigan modeled after the satirical news publication The Onion. Named as an homage to student newspaper The Michigan Daily, The Every Three Weekly contains fictional news articles that satirize local, national, and international events and public figures. The Every Three Weekly is funded by the University of Michigan's University Activities Center and began regular publication in 1999.

"The UnReal Times" was an Indian satire, spoof, parody and humour portal featuring satirical articles on politics, entertainment, cricket, media, international affairs and society. Founded in 2011, the portal publishes fake news reports, comic strips, mock transcripts, fake Facebook and Twitter conversations among other formats, combining irreverent humour with biting satire in its commentary on current events. The Unreal Times has been referred to as The Onion of India, most notably by tech blog makeuseof.com. The Unreal Times shut down in November, 2016 for unknown reasons.

Queen is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Madhu Mantena. The film stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, with Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao playing supporting roles. The film follows the story of Rani Mehra, a diffident Punjabi girl from New Delhi who embarks on her honeymoon to Paris and Amsterdam by herself after her fiancé calls off their wedding.

<i>Revolver Rani</i> 2014 Indian film

Revolver Rani is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language crime comedy drama film written and directed by Sai Kabir. Presented by Wave Cinemas, the film stars Kangana Ranaut and Vir Das, with Piyush Mishra, Zakir Hussain and Pankaj Saraswat in supporting roles. It is a satirical love story set against the backdrop of politics. Revolver Rani was released on 25 April 2014.

ClickHole is a satirical website that parodies clickbait websites such as BuzzFeed and Upworthy. It was launched on June 12, 2014, in conjunction with The Onion's decision to stop its print edition and shift its focus exclusively to the internet. According to ClickHole's senior editor, Jermaine Affonso, the website "is The Onion's response to click-bait content" and serves as "a parody of online media". Critics noted that, on a deeper level, ClickHole illustrates the shallow nature of social media content and media sites' desperation to share such content.

Paul Horner was an American writer, comedian and contributor to fake news websites. The Associated Press, The Chicago Tribune, PolitiFact and The Washington Post all called Horner a "hoax artist".

<i>Tanu Weds Manu Returns</i> 2015 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film

Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a 2015 Indian romantic comedy film directed by Aanand L. Rai which is a sequel to the 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu. R. Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Sheirgill, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar and Eijaz Khan reprise their roles from the original film. Ranaut also portrays the additional role of a Haryanvi athlete in it. The story, screenplay and the dialogues were written by Himanshu Sharma. The soundtrack and film score were composed by Krsna Solo and the lyrics were penned by Rajshekhar. Saroj Khan and Bosco–Caesar were the film's choreographers while the editing was done by Hemal Kothari.

The Babylon Bee is a conservative Christian news satire website that publishes satirical articles on topics including religion, politics, current events, and public figures. It has been referred to as a Christian, evangelical, or conservative version of The Onion.

Rahul Roushan is an Indian blogger and businessman. Roushan founded Faking News, a satirical news website, and is the CEO of OpIndia, a right-wing news portal that has been found publishing fake news on multiple occasions. Originally from Patna, he is now based in Mumbai and is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication and IIM-A.

And Raj Arjun as R. M. Veerappan. Shot simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi, it is directed by A. L. Vijay and written by Madhan Karky (Tamil) and Rajat Arora (Hindi). Lock Upp is the first season of Indian reality competition television series, Lock Upp: Badass Jail, Atyaachari Khel!. Hosted by Kangana Ranaut and Karan Kundrra, it premiered on ALTBalaji and MX Player from 27 February 2022. The Grand Finale or Badass Finale of the show was held on 7 May 2022 where Munawar Faruqui emerged as the winner while Payal Rohatgi was announced as the Runner-up.
