The Fight is a 2018 British family drama film, the debut as writer-director for Jessica Hynes. The film stars Hynes, Russell Brand, Anita Dobson, Rhona Mitra, Christopher Fairbank, Sennia Nanua, Alice Lowe, Sally Phillips and Liv Hill. [1]
Tina is a mother of three who with her husband on nightshifts, her eldest daughter being bullied at school and her parents' relationship in trouble, is feeling overwhelmed. With the reappearance of a former school rival Tina steps into the boxing ring and discovers how to fight for herself. [2]
The film was predominantly shot in and around Folkestone, Kent in 12 days with cinematographer Ryan Eddleston. [3] Locations included Cornwallis Avenue, Folkestone Harbour Arm, Folkestone Coastal Park, The Warren, Lower Radnor Park, Folkestone academy and Folkestone amateur boxing club. [4]
The Fight premiered at the 2018 London Film Festival [5] and was released in the United Kingdom on 15 March 2019. [4] [6] As of October 2021 [update] , it has an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 12 critical reviews. [7]
Hynes was nominated for best first screen play at the 2020 Writers' Guild of Great Britain awards. [8] Eddleston was nominated for BAFTA Cymru for his Cinematography at the BAFTA Cymru 2019 awards

The series was initially ordered as a short film for BBC Wales, but this later acted as the pilot episode after BBC ordered In My Skin as a full series. The series stars Gabrielle Creevy, James Wilbraham, Poppy Lee Friar, Jo Hartley, Aled ap Steffan, Di Botcher, Georgia Furlong and Rhodri Meilir. Small Axe is a British anthology film series, created and directed by Steve McQueen. The anthology consists of five films that tell distinct stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from the 1960s to the 1980s. Two episodes of the series were selected into the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. The series premiered on 15 November 2020 on BBC One in the United Kingdom and on 20 November 2020 on Amazon Prime Video in the United States. The title references a proverb – "Small axe fall big tree" or "If you are the big tree, we are the small axe" – that was popularised by Bob Marley in his 1973 song "Small Axe".
