The Food Assembly

The Food Assembly is an online farmers' market that aims to help farmers sell their produce direct to consumers. It was founded in France in 2010 by Guilhem Cheron and Marc-David Choukroun. The Food Assembly was originally called La Ruche qui dit Oui! which means The Hive That Says Yes! [1] [2]

There are branches in France, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, UK, Switzerland and Italy. However at the end of June the French organisation pulled the plug on the UK with no reasons given [1]

The project was motivated by the desire for healthy eating and sustainable living. [3] Anyone can open a Food Assembly in their neighbourhood and recruit local farmers to sell produce at through the local food assembly. However there are restrictions on the geographical area and these need to be agreed by your counties head office even if they are not aware how your members might travel in that area. [4] Customers (colloquially called Members) can place orders through the online platform and then pick up their orders at a local venue from the producers.

The model is a subcategory of civic agriculture that has an overarching goal of strengthening a sense of community through local markets.

Takeaway.com is an intermediary online portal between the customer and the restaurants, where customers can order food online from restaurants’ menus, and have it delivered by the restaurants directly to their home. Following clearance by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority on 22 April 2020, Takeaway.com merged with British food delivery service Just Eat, in February 2020.

Farm gate marketing or farmgate sales describes a direct marketing method whereby farmers sell agricultural produce – mostly food – directly to the consumer, to restaurants and caterers, and to independent retailers. Farm gate sales are a common type of marketing found throughout traditional small farming sector worldwide and, in some countries, accounts for the vast amount of sales as far foodstuffs and livestock are concerned.

Farmigo was an online farmers' market that connected consumers, workplaces, schools, apartment complexes and community centers directly to local farms. It operated in three locations, Seattle-Takoma, the Bay Area, and greater New York City. It went bankrupt in 2016. The company is a certified B Corporation and has raised $8 million in Series B financing led by Sherbrooke Capital and RSF Social Finance joined by Series A lead investor Benchmark Capital.

Phat Beets Produce is an American food justice collective focusing on food justice in North Oakland, California, started by Max Cadji and Bret Brenner in 2007. Their programs include weekly farmer's markets, free produce stands, youth gardens, community supported agriculture programs, food and social justice workshops, and previously, a kitchen and cafe cooperative. Cadji helps residents have access to nutritious food by coordinating between farmers, institutions, and low-income communities to utilize empty land for urban gardening.

Foodpanda is a mobile food delivery marketplace owned by Berlin-based company Delivery Hero SE and operates in about 50 countries. It is mostly active in Asia Pacific, Bulgaria and Romania. It is headquartered in Berlin, Germany.

It includes information and communications technology supporting government with software built by community-led teams of volunteers, nonprofits, consultants, and private companies as well as embedded tech teams working within government.

Pinduoduo Inc. is the largest interactive e-commerce platform in China and in the world. It is the second-largest online marketplace in China by number of users and number of orders. It is also one of the world's largest internet companies. It has pioneered several new trends including social e-commerce, team purchase and consumer-to-manufacturer (C2M) that have revolutionized online shopping in China. Pinduoduo ranks just behind Alibaba Group with close to 600 million users and recorded 1 trillion yuan in GMV in under five years. Getting to the same scale took Alibaba 10 years to achieve. One blogger wrote that “to understand the success of Pinduoduo is to understand the future of global e-commerce."

Slice (app) Online food ordering platform for independent pizzerias

Slice is an online food ordering platform for independent pizzerias. It allows pizzeria owners to offer their products to their customers using a mobile-optimized website and their customers can place orders through the Slice app and social media channels. The company claims their platform is used by 9,000 pizzerias in 2,500 towns and cities in the US. It also claims to have processed more than $100 million worth of deliveries in 2017 and to have filled a total of over 12 million orders since 2010.
