The Gatehouse is a registered charity based in the Etobicoke area of in Toronto, Ontario, Canada that treats survivors of child sexual abuse. [2] [3] The centre has helped more than 15,000 survivors of childhood sexual abuse since it opened in 1998. [4]
The headquarters for the charity was the doctor's house for the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital. [5] It was abandoned for over 30 years and restored for use by volunteers. [6] [7] The vision of The Gatehouse and the restoration of the house was the creation of Arthur Raymond Lockhart who had the idea to reach out to survivors of child abuse within the community. Jean Vanier was a Canadian Catholic philosopher and theologian. In 1964, he founded L'Arche, an international federation of communities spread over 37 countries for people with developmental disabilities and those who assist them. In 1971, he co-founded Faith and Light with Marie-Hélène Mathieu, which also works for people with developmental disabilities, their families, and friends in over 80 countries. He continued to live as a member of the original L'Arche community in Trosly-Breuil, France, until his death.

The Meeting House is an Anabaptist church located in the Greater Toronto Area suburb of Oakville, Ontario. The Toronto South Detention Centre is a correctional facility in the district of Etobicoke in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is a Government of Ontario-operated maximum-security correctional facility for adult male inmates serving a sentence of up to 2-years-less-a-day, and offenders who have been remanded into custody while awaiting trial. It is built on the site of the former Mimico Correctional Centre, which closed in 2011 and whose origins dated back to 1887. The Toronto South Detention Centre officially opened on January 29, 2014 replacing the Toronto Jail, the Toronto West Detention Centre, and the demolished Mimico Correctional Centre.

The Men's Project is a counselling agency based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada whose prime mandate is sexual abuse recovery and other issues surrounding the mental health needs of men and their families. The keystone of the agency is its Men & Healing program, a series of group programs designed for men who are recovering from childhood sexual and/or physical abuse. Aside from its Men & Healing program, TMP offers a number of other services, including: anger management; a fathering program; a province-wide crisis line; and individual, family and couples counselling.
The 2003 Etobicoke gas explosion was a disaster which occurred on April 24, 2003, after a backhoe operated by Enbridge contractor Precision Utility breached a pipeline on Bloor Street in the Etobicoke district of Toronto, Ontario. The resulting explosion destroyed a two-story mixed commercial and residential building, killing seven people and injuring another four. Enbridge and several other companies were fined for the disaster in 2011. A memorial garden was dedicated at the site of the explosion in 2008.
The Mimico Correctional Centre was a provincial medium-security correctional facility for adult male inmates serving a sentence of 2-years-less-a-day or less in Ontario, Canada. Its history can be traced back to 1887. The Mimico Correctional Centre is one of several facilities operated by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and was located at 130 Horner Avenue in the district of Etobicoke which is now a part of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The facility was closed in 2011 and demolished to make room for the new Toronto South Detention Centre which opened in 2014.
Yvan Baker is a Canadian politician who was elected to represent the federal riding of Etobicoke Centre in the 2019 federal election. He is a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. The Lantern Project is a UK registered charity which gave support to child sexual abuse victims, victims of bullying and victims of racial abuse. The Charity was founded by Graham Wilmer MBE, an adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse, in 2000 under the name 'Victims No Longer' but in 2003 it changed its name to the Lantern Project after gaining the support of another survivor David Williams.
Spotlight is a 2015 American biographical drama film directed by Tom McCarthy and written by McCarthy and Josh Singer. The film follows The Boston Globe's "Spotlight" team, the oldest continuously operating newspaper investigative journalist unit in the United States, and its investigation into cases of widespread and systemic child sex abuse in the Boston area by numerous Roman Catholic priests. Although the plot was original, it is loosely based on a series of stories by the Spotlight team that earned The Globe the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. The film features an ensemble cast including Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, John Slattery, and Stanley Tucci, with Brian d'Arcy James, Liev Schreiber, and Billy Crudup in supporting roles.
The Jewish Community Watch is a global Jewish organization dedicated to the prevention of child sexual abuse (CSA) within the Orthodox Jewish community. Originally based in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the organization has been noted for its controversial wall of shame where it publicizing the names of people it considers suspected abusers by posting their names and alleged activities on the organization's website. The organization ceased day-to-day operations in 2014. JCW restarted daily operations several months later, restructuring with a new board of directors as well as an advisory board. Jewish Community Watch focuses on abuse prevention through education and awareness as well as locating individuals thought to have abused children and warning the local community of their presence. The organization's founders are two residents of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Meyer Seewald, and his brother Schneur Seewald.
After a sexual assault or rape, victims are often subjected to scrutiny and, in some cases, mistreatment. Victims undergo medical examinations and are interviewed by police. St. Anne’s Indian Residential School was a Canadian Indian Residential School in Fort Albany, Ontario, that operated from 1902 to 1976. It took Cree students from the Fort Albany First Nation and area. Many students reported physical, psychological and sexual abuse, and 156 settled a lawsuit against the federal government in 2004.
