The Heavy Soul Experience is the first full-length studio album from Mother Superior. It features the original Wilson-Blake-Mackenroth line-up.
William Blake was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. What he called his prophetic works were said by 20th-century critic Northrop Frye to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language". His visual artistry led 21st-century critic Jonathan Jones to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. While he lived in London his entire life, except for three years spent in Felpham, he produced a diverse and symbolically rich œuvre, which embraced the imagination as "the body of God" or "human existence itself".
Rollins Band was an American rock band formed in Van Nuys, California. The band was active from 1987 to 2006 and was led by former Black Flag vocalist Henry Rollins. They are best known for the songs "Low Self Opinion" and "Liar", which both earned heavy airplay on MTV in the early-mid 1990s.

Mother Superior were an American hard rock band based in Los Angeles, California. A power trio, they originally consisted of guitarist/vocalist Jim Wilson, bassist Marcus Blake and drummer Jason Mackenroth. In 2005, Mackenroth quit and was replaced by Matt Tecu. Mackenroth died on January 3, 2016, in Nevada from prostate cancer complications. They were described as "a much talked about yet underappreciated rock outfit who made waves throughout Southern California and beyond."

It was recorded at the same sessions that produced Nice, making it a companion piece to that album, and was released directly by Rollins' 2.13.61 label.
