The History Chicks is a history podcast about women in history. The show is hosted by Beckett Graham and Susan Vollenweider, and has been releasing episodes since 2011. In each episode, the hosts examine the life of a historic woman from birth to death as well as her legacy. The hosts also review any source materials that they used in researching the subject. The podcast began when Graham, not finding any podcasts solely covering women's history, decided to create the show she wanted to listen to. She found Vollenweider on an online moms' message board.[ citation needed ]

Vollenweider, is a freelance writer and columnist for The Kansas City Star. [2]

The History Chicks podcast launched on January 20, 2011, and their first episode, on Queen Marie Antoinette dropped on January 31 of the same year. [3] The show hit iTunes New and Notable section. [4]

While an independent production, the podcast joined the Panoply Media in 2016, and moved to Wondery in 2019.[ citation needed ] They are now on the QCode podcast network.

Episodes are released on a twice a month basis. [5] Episodes cover both historical figures as well as fictional ones. [6] Each episode is about an hour long. [7] The show is a feminist podcast. [8] [9]

In 2016, the hosts discussed three women who ran for president: Victoria Woodhull, Belva Lockwood, and Shirley Chisholm. [10]

Format

Each episode begins with a 30-second Summary where the hosts encapsulate the history of the subject in a very quick paragraph. It is followed by Dropped in History where a list of other events happening during the life of the subject from inventions, to wars, and other things people may have heard of. What follows is a set format with information about the subjects family, location, details of how her parents met, her siblings lives, and finally, the rest of the episode focuses on the subjects life, education, challenges, family, failures, and accomplishments.[ citation needed ]

Graham and Vollenweider don't discuss their research with each other until recording, they want the conversation to flow organically and spotlight different aspects of the subjects like that may only be of interest to one of them. "It's exciting for us to see the same woman through the eyes of each other—things that one of us finds interesting, the other might gloss over." [11] [12] [13]

The Media section is where the two discuss the sources that they used in research, any that they would recommend, finally movies, other media, and museums related to the subject.[ citation needed ]

In 2021, Graham and Vollenweider appeared on C-SPAN's Q&A series and the Washington Journal . [14] [15]

The History Chicks have also contributed to several History Channel series such as The Machines that Built America (2021) [16] and The Engineering that Built the World (2021). [17]

The podcast has been recommended on many top history podcast lists including Lifewire.com, [18] Speechify.com, [19] Feedspot.com [20] , Bustle.com [21] and Whatpods.com. [22]

A podcast is a program made available in digital format for download over the Internet. <i>99% Invisible</i> Radio program and podcast on design

99% Invisible is a radio show and podcast produced and created by Roman Mars that focuses on design. It began as a collaborative project between San Francisco public radio station KALW and the American Institute of Architects in San Francisco. PRX has distributed the show for broadcasting on a number of radio stations and as a podcast on the Radiotopia network. On April 28, 2021, Roman Mars announced in an introduction of a re-released episode that 99% Invisible had been purchased by Sirius XM and marketed as part of its Stitcher Radio brand.

Wow in the World is a children's podcast hosted by children's media and audio veterans Guy Raz and Mindy Thomas. which debuted on May 17, 2017 and produced by Tinkercast, LLC, a company established by Thomas and Raz to produce children's audio., and distributed by Wondery. Initially, it was distributed by NPR as part of its efforts to invest in podcasts and digital media aimed at wider audiences, including families, as well as Guy Raz's connections to the broadcaster for producing popular shows like the TED Radio Hour and the business podcast How I Built This. Distribution was handed over to Sony Music in April 2021, but the deal with Sony was very short lived. The Amazon-owned podcast network Wondery agreed to distribute the Tinkercast assets in September the same year. The show focuses on science and technology and each episodes is about 25 minutes long. However some episodes, such as the spin-off game show Two Whats?! And a Wow!!! are 15 minutes long and other bonus episodes may run for 5–10 minutes.
