The Hitchhikers is a 1972 film written, produced, and directed by Beverly Sebastian and Ferd Sebastian. [4] [5] The film marks the theatrical debut, as well as the first nude scenes, for actress Misty Rowe. [6]

Contents

Premise

A pregnant teen is kicked out of her house and joins a band of women who lure and rob motorists. [7] [8]

Cast

Production

The film was made on the topic of runaways. [1] The film was made for $45,000. [2] "We know our audience," said Ferd Sebastian. "Our movies have a plot that goes A-B-C. Nothing complicated just a lot of action and a story I can understand, that you can understand and that the guy who dropped out of school in the ninth grade can get something out of." [4]

Reception

Critical

The Boston Globe called it a "stupid little movie... nothing more than a smirking skin flick". [9]

The Pittsburgh Press said "what would have been tedious as half-hour TV drama has been padded to 93 minutes." [10]

Spinning Image said "Part dreadful warning to the squares, part invitation to the hippies, this was of its time, shall we say." [11]

Box office

The film grossed nearly $3 million. [3] [12] Ferd Sabstian says he made $300,000 from it. [2]
