The James Buchanan Hotel is an historic, American hotel that is located on North Main Street in downtown Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. It was the boyhood home of the fifteenth President of the United States, James Buchanan and was built by James Buchanan, Sr. in 1796. [1]
Buchanan built this structure as a two-story brick residence; the third story was added during the late 19th century. It is part of the Mercersburg Historic District, which was listed by the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
In 2022, the James Buchanan Hotel was bought by Capital Hotels Mercersburg, LLC and is currently owned and operated by Maxwell S Paul and family. [2]

Shannondale Springs is a former American resort associated with mineral springs on the bank of the Shenandoah River upstream from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The water from the main spring was reputed to have mild laxative qualities, while other springs had a sulfurous odor. The resort began in 1820 with the construction of 10 to 12 wood cottages, and a two-story hotel was added the next year. The hotel and some of the cottages burned in 1858. After the Civil War several new brick cottages were built and a new hotel was built on the site of the old in 1890. This hotel burned in 1909 and was never rebuilt. The cottages and accessory structures lasted another thirty years before becoming uninhabitable.

Pen Mar is an unincorporated community in Washington County, Maryland, and Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is one of the border towns in the United States with a portmanteau name. Pen Mar came to prominence as a resort in the 20th century after the construction of Pen Mar Park by the Western Maryland Railway. While the resort has long been dismantled, the area still has some significance in Maryland, since it is the northern starting point for the Maryland section of the Appalachian Trail.
