The Late Show is the ninth album from the Austrian rock band Son of the Velvet Rat.
The eleven-track album was released on digital download with Mint 400 Records, on 15 June 2018. It is a live album, that was recorded from three shows in Vienna, Austria, Wenden and Burbank, California for their 2017 tour, supporting the album Dorado . It features Altziebler on guitar and Binder on accordion and keys, with additional support from Dominik Krejan on Fender Rhodes and piano, and Muck Willmann and Felix Kruger on drums. The Late Show contains five songs from Dorado, and six songs from previous albums. [1] It showcases sparse performances, and is compared to the music of the rock singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, and the blues rock singer-songwriter Tom Waits. [2] The compact disc and vinyl editions of The Late Show were released by Fluff and Gravy Records, on 13 July 2018.
A review by Eleni Austin in Coachella Valley Weekly says "even though their signature sound on record is brooding and hypnotic, live, the band adds new colors and textures to their sonic paint box. The interplay between the performers and the audience feels passionate and palpable. The phrase "you had to be there" simply doesn't apply in this instance. With The Late Show it feels like you're part of the experience." [1]
Peter Jesperson named it one of his Best of 2018, saying "here in LA, we're rarely treated to full-band shows by Austria's Son of the Velvet Rat so this live recording is especially welcome. Hearing the principals, George & Heike, play with a rhythm section is very exciting," and he adds "don't miss George's lead guitar break on "Do You Love Me?" - it's a knockout." [3]

The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1979. Initially a punk rock band, they are considered one of the pioneers of alternative rock. The band was composed of the guitarist and vocalist Paul Westerberg, guitarist Bob Stinson, bass guitarist Tommy Stinson and drummer Chris Mars for most of its career. Following several acclaimed albums, including Let It Be and Tim, Bob Stinson was kicked out of the band in 1986, and Slim Dunlap joined as lead guitarist. Steve Foley replaced Mars in 1990. Towards the end of the band's career, Westerberg exerted more control over the creative output. The group disbanded in 1991, with the members eventually pursuing various projects. A reunion was announced on October 3, 2012. The band is referred to by their nickname "The 'Mats" by fans, which originated as a truncation of "The Placemats," a mispronunciation of their name.

Poi Dog Pondering is an American musical group, noted for its cross-pollination of diverse musical genres, including various forms of acoustic and electronic music. Founded in Hawaii in 1984 by Frank Orrall, initially as a solo project. In 1985 Orrall formed the first line-up of PDP to perform its first concert; at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The band then embarked on a yearlong Street Performance Busking tour across North America, eventually settling in Austin, Texas in 1987, where they recorded their first three albums. In 1992, the band relocated, this time to Chicago, Illinois, where they began to incorporate Orchestral arrangements & elements of Electronic, House Music and Soul music into their Acoustic Rock style. The membership of Poi Dog Pondering has changed from album to album.
Red Dirt Girl is an Emmylou Harris album from 2000, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard country album charts and won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2001. The album was a significant departure for Harris, as eleven of the twelve tracks were written or co-written by her. She was best known for covering other songwriters' work. Prior to this album, only two of Harris' LPs had more than two of her own compositions. Her next album, Stumble into Grace, was also written by Harris. The album contains "Bang The Drum Slowly", a song Guy Clark helped Harris write as an elegy for her father.

The band's song lyrics often focused on fantasy, occult or historical themes, along with their contemporaries and countrymen Helloween. They performed at Wacken Open Air festival in 2002. Over time they have changed their sound from a Judas Priest-esque style of heavy metal to a more keyboard based form of power metal.
