The Lexicon is a retail and leisure complex located in Bracknell, Berkshire. It was part of a wider regeneration project in the town, which saw a third of its centre demolished. The Lexicon was then constructed on the site and opened in 2017.
At the time of opening, it had 70 stores, restaurants, and a cinema. It was visited by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018.
In 2010, a 580,000 sq ft (54,000 m2) development received planning permission for the redevelopment of Bracknell's town centre. The concept would regenerate part of the city centre and focus on retail and hospitality. Plans for the wider regeneration of Bracknell had been discussed for around a decade before the development broke ground in 2012. [1] The development would see a third of Bracknell's town centre demolished due to its brutalist architecture. [2] The Lexicon was a 50:50 joint venture between Legal & General Capital and Schroder UK Real Estate Fund. They collaborated with Bracknell Forest Council to develop the masterplan. [3]
While under construction, the development was given the name "The Lexicon" in 2015. [4] In 2017, the redevelopment of Bracknell town centre was completed and The Lexicon opened on 7 September. The regeneration project cost a total of £240 million. [3] Upon completion, the new shopping district in Bracknell covered more than one million sq ft, with 70 new shops and restaurants and a cinema. Shortly after its one-year anniversary, The Lexicon hosted Queen Elizabeth II when she visited Bracknell to witness what was referred to as "one of the biggest town centre regenerations in the UK." [6]
In 2019, a second phase of the project began. A total of £30 million was secured for the redesign of Princes Square and the regeneration started in the same year. [7]
When The Lexicon opened in 2017, it announced a number of notable tenants. The Avenue hosted two anchor tenants, Marks & Spencer and Fenwick. [8]
Other retailers included Joules, Fat Face, Superdry, Office, Next, H&M, River Island, Timberland, Paperchase, The Body Shop, Topshop, and Primark. [9] Pandora also chose to open a store at The Lexicon in 2017. [8]
The hospitality and leisure part of the development would include a 12-screen Cineworld, with restaurants including Nandos, Wagamama, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, and Carluccio's. [10]
The development is located in the town centre of Bracknell, Berkshire. Bracknell was one of the UK's new towns launched in the 1950s. The town is located between the M4 and M3 motorways, and around 30 miles (48 km) from central London. [11]
The regeneration led to a purpose-built car park that would hold up to 4,000 cars. Other transport improvements were also made to the area. [5]
The 2017 opening of The Lexicon marked the second phase of Bracknell's regeneration, with further plans to redevelop the town centre. [12]
Work is continuing to develop Princess Square and the area around the old Bentalls store, called The Deck. [13]

Sandhurst is known worldwide as the location of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Oriental City was a major shopping centre in Colindale, North London, England, originally built as a luxury Japanese shopping centre called Yaohan Plaza by the Yaohan retail company of Japan. Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre is a major regional shopping centre located in the eastern suburb of Forest Hill in Melbourne, Australia. Owned by Blackstone and managed by JLL, the centre is among the oldest in Victoria, opening on 30 June 1964 as an outdoor strip shopping centre, before being developed over the years into its current three level indoor form. Currently, Forest Hill Chase contains 200 stores and over 3500 free car parking spaces. The centre has three supermarkets, two discount department stores and some smaller anchor stores. The architecture is distinguished by a roof of polycarbonate construction with a barrel vault design.

Victoria Leeds is a shopping district and leisure area in central Leeds, comprising the 1990 Victoria Quarter, an arcaded complex of restored 19th century and contemporary shopping arcades, and the 2016 Victoria Gate development. In 2016 ,the Victoria Quarter was merged with the newly built Victoria Gate complex to form the largest premium retail and leisure venue in Northern England. The district includes a casino and major stores such as Harvey Nichols and John Lewis and Partners.
The Queensgate shopping centre is located in the centre of the UK city of Peterborough, in Cambridgeshire. It contains over 100 stores and parking for 2,300 cars in four onsite multi-storey car parks. Queensgate bus station is located within the shopping centre and only a short walk from Peterborough railway station. Peterborough Shop Mobility provide wheelchairs and electric scooters to help those with limited mobility. The centre was opened by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands on 9 March 1982.
The London Borough of Croydon has a wide variety of buildings mainly from post-war through to modern. Much of the modern architecture in the borough is centred on the commercial centre of the town, with much of the Victorian designs spread out on both the northern and southern corridors of the borough. Jennett's Park is a suburb of Bracknell in the English county of Berkshire. It is a recent development with the first residents moving there in 2007. It is in Great Hollands North ward of Bracknell Forest Council.
