The Orchid Highway

The Orchid Highway is a Canadian rock band based first in Winnipeg, Manitoba, then for two years in London, UK, and lastly in Vancouver, British Columbia. The core of the band are the three Winnipeg-born Macdonald brothers Rory (bass), Jamie (guitar) and Derek (keyboards); [1] in Vancouver they added drummer Adrian Buckley and guitarist Scott Perry, who had toured with mutual friend Todd Fancey (of the New Pornographers).

Todd George Fancey is a Canadian guitarist, keyboardist, and solo artist. He is most widely known as the guitarist for Vancouver-based indie rock band The New Pornographers and the bassist for the band Limblifter. Fancey is originally from Nova Scotia.

History

The Orchid Highway formed in 1994 in Winnipeg. They moved to the United Kingdom in the late 1990s, where they performed in London for two years, [2] and recorded their first EP Fourplay. On returning to Canada, the band toured about in a brightly painted bus, [3] and worked with producer Steven Drake to record and release their first full-length album, The Orchid Highway. [4] Positive reviews and brisk online sales brought them to the attention of Brooklyn NY label Rainbow Quartz, who signed the band in 2008 and re-released The Orchid Highway internationally. Singles “Next World” and “Sofa Surfer Girl” received airplay throughout Canada and the US, particularly in Hawaii; tunes from the albums were played extensively in 2008 at Maui’s KEAO [ citation needed ]), and in L.A. on Rodney Bingenheimer's KROQ show. “Next World” was featured in Haylie Duff slasher film Fear Island , and the video for “Sofa Surfer Girl” was played on Canada’s MuchMusic. KEAO-LP

KEAO-LP was a radio station licensed to Wailuku, Hawaii, United States, serving some limited parts of the Hawaiian island of Maui. The station's license was cancelled June 25, 2013. Although actual Hawaiian music was rare, such genres as jazz, blues, acoustic and world music were common. Mana'O Radio did have a live-streaming web page. The station was owned by Mana'o Radio.

The band later relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia.

Barry Adamson English rock musician

Canadian hardcore punk

Hey Ocean! band

Hey Ocean! is a Canadian indie alternative rock and synthpop band formed in 2004 in Vancouver. David Beckingham and Ashleigh Ball had been friends since grade 6, joining with David Vertesi in the 2000s to form the band. The band consists of Ashleigh Ball (vocals/flute), David Beckingham (vocals/guitar), and David Vertesi (vocals/bass). Their music draws from many genres, including pop and acoustic, and the group tours Canada widely. They have performed locally alongside other Vancouver acts such as Shad K, Mother Mother and Said the Whale.

Sound of Contact is a British-based progressive rock band currently consisting of Matt Dorsey and Dave Kerzner, with Simon Collins and Kelly Nordstrom previously being members. Formed in 2009, the band released their debut album in May 2013.
