The Reads

The Reads are an alternative rock band from North Wales and Chester, England. Their debut studio album, Stories from the Border, was released in 2011. Their follow up album Lost at Sea was released in 2014. Their third album Crossfire was released on 3 April 2020 as the UK went into lockdown. The pandemic delayed the album launch party by 18 months. Their music has been played on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Merseyside, XFM and Amazing Radio, amongst others. The track "Scarlet" featured on BBC 2's "Our Coast" in February, 2020. They list Doves, Elbow, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Pink Floyd, Boards of Canada, The Flaming Lips, The Beatles, The Bluetones, The Stone Roses, Aphex Twin, Spiritualized, Father John Misty, John Grant amongst their influences. High profile fans include Jeremy Vine, Adrian Chiles, Janice Long and TV Chef, Bryn Williams.

History

An early version of the band was formed in 2000 when school mates Marcel Delrue and Jamie Russell were introduced by a mutual friend to Stuart Bennett and Clare Stevenson who worked together at a local HMV store. They began playing together putting music to poems that Clare had written. In time brothers Matty Goddard and Chris Goddard parted ways with a previous band and joined The Reads. [1] Throughout these early years the band played at local and city venues all over the North West and North Wales. [2]

In March 2010, the band was approached by a friend who offered to fund the cost of recording their first studio album. Music Producer Jim Spencer, known for his work with Oasis, Doves and The Charlatans was enlisted to record and mix the album. The project was later joined by Joe Duddell who took time out from working with Mercury Prize winning band Elbow to come up with string and brass arrangements for five of the 12 songs. [1] The album was mastered by Frank Arkwright who has worked with bands such as Arcade Fire, The Smiths and Gomez. [3] [4]

The album was played live for the first time at Telford's Warehouse a music venue in Chester to a sell out crowd. [5]

Positive local reviews of the album [6] [7] attracted attention of BBC Radio Wales, leading to the song "Orange Days" being Single of the Week from 16 May 2011 and the band playing a Live In Session at the BBC studios in Cardiff on 27 June 2011. Their first single, "Good Omens" is also set to be Single of the Week from 1 August 2011. Further BBC radio airplay was gained through Jeremy Vine on The Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2. [8]

They released their second album Lost at Sea in 2014 which featured singles played by BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Merseyside. Once again, it was produced and mixed by Jim Spencer and mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios.

There followed a period of inactivity with only a handful of gigs, before the band began work on a new album in spring 2018. This was recorded at Hope Mill Recording Studios, Manchester and EVE Studio, Stockport and was mixed and produced by Jim Spencer. Again, it was mastered by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios. Crossfire was released on 3 April 2020.

Elbow (band) English alternative rock band

Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1997. The band consists of Guy Garvey, Craig Potter, Mark Potter and Pete Turner. They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997. Drummer Alex Reeves replaced Richard Jupp in 2016.

Biffy Clyro Scottish rock band

Biffy Clyro are a Scottish rock band that formed in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, composed of Simon Neil, James Johnston, and Ben Johnston. Currently signed to 14th Floor Records, they have released nine studio albums, five of which reached the top five in the UK Albums Chart, with their sixth studio album, Opposites claiming their first UK No. 1 album. The latest three consecutive studio albums have all peaked at number one in the UK official albums chart. After their first three albums, the band expanded their following significantly in 2007 with the release of their fourth album, Puzzle, creating more mainstream songs with simpler rhythms and distancing themselves from the more unusual dissonant style present in their previous three albums. Unsane is an American noise rock trio that was formed in New York City in 1988. Its music touches on elements of hardcore punk and metal. The writer Patrick Kennedy wrote, "While developing the blueprint for noise-metal bands to follow, Unsane cut a remarkable swath through underground music, inspiring a devoted, cult-like following around the world."

Amsterdam are an English pop/rock group based in Liverpool. Formed in 1999, they had their first UK Top 40 single with "The Journey" in February 2005. The Automatic Welsh rock band

The Automatic was a Welsh rock band. The band's last-known lineup was composed of Robin Hawkins on vocals, bass and synthesisers, James Frost on guitar, synthesisers, backing vocals and occasional bass, Iwan Griffiths on drums and Paul Mullen on vocals, guitar and synthesiser. The Travelling Band

Elbow Jane are now a five piece acoustic band from Merseyside in the United Kingdom. They signed to Fellside Records in 2009, and in 2011 released their second CD on the Fellside label entitled The Boldest Blood. A reviewer in R2 magazine described their music as “utterly infectious”" and called the band “one of the top acoustic acts in the country". A reviewer in Maverick magazine wrote that they have a "vibrant sound with soaring harmonies...a thinking man's band that seems to have plenty to say and that "the musical arrangements are at time magical.",

Jeremy Spencer British musician (born 1948)


Jeremy Cedric Spencer is a British musician, best known as a guitarist in the original line-up of the rock band Fleetwood Mac. A member since Fleetwood Mac's inception in July 1967, he remained with the band until his abrupt departure in February 1971, when he joined a religious cult, the "Children of God", now known as "The Family International", with which he is still affiliated. After a pair of solo albums in the 1970s, he continued to tour as a musician, but did not release another album until 2006. He released further solo albums in 2012, 2014 and 2016, and has also recorded as part of the folk trio Steetley. As a member of Fleetwood Mac, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Madison Blues – Live & Studio Recordings is a compilation album by British blues rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 2003. It is a compilation of BBC session tracks and live concert material from the band's first post-Peter Green line up, none of which had previously been officially released. It is unusual within Fleetwood Mac's catalogue as it focuses on the period between the successful Peter Green period and the start of the Bob Welch period which eventually led to another successful period for the band in the mid to late 1970s. Packaged as a double CD with a DVD interview with guitarist Jeremy Spencer, it came in a cardboard box with a foldout inner sheet.
