The Roast was a flagship Australian satirical news show that screened on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) television channel ABC2. The daily ten-minute show was hosted by Tom Glasson and featured Mark Humphries, Clarke Richards, Alex Lee, Jazz Twemlow and Nich Richardson. [1]

The Roast began life online as a one-minute, news headlines show in 2011. It expanded to a two-minute series in 2012 which also screened on ABC2. From 8 April 2013, it began screening on ABC2 in a regular timeslot at 7.30pm weeknights as a 10-minute program. [2] It was then renewed for another season in 2014, again as a 10-minute daily show, with the addition of ABC News 24 presenter Alex Lee, replacing Rachel Corbett.

On 4 November 2014, David Knox of TV Tonight reported that The Roast had been axed and would not return in 2015. [3]

On 29 December 2014, the Australian online wing of the British national daily newspaper, The Guardian presented an exclusive end of year wrap-up episode of The Roast [4] hosted by Mark Humphries. The collaboration with the publication was extended with the announcement on 18 March 2015 of a limited run return of the series. [5]

The PodRoast

On 14 April 2013 the producers and writers of the show began a podcast show called The PodRoast. The podcast provided additional commentary and behind the scenes details about the show. The show also has a regular segment called "Who is your least favourite person this week?" where the cast and crew said which member of the show is their least favourite person, usually this is because of their working style or because of an issue they caused during production.

The X Factor is an Australian television reality music competition, based on the original UK series, to find new singing talent. The first season of the show premiered on Network Ten on 6 February 2005. Ten dropped The X Factor after the first season due to its poor ratings. In 2010, the Seven Network won the rights to the show, and a second season went into production. The X Factor was renewed after the highly successful Australian Idol was no longer broadcast on Network Ten. The X Factor was produced by FremantleMedia Australia, and was broadcast on the Seven Network in Australia and on TV3 in New Zealand. The program was cancelled after its eighth season in 2016.

The Checkout was an Australian consumer affairs television series. The show's first series of 10 episodes premiered on 21 March 2013 on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) television station ABC TV. A second series consisting of 16 episodes commenced airing on 20 February 2014. On 9 April 2015, a third series consisting of 12 episodes began airing. The series was renewed for a fourth series, which began airing on 7 April 2016 consisting of 12 episodes. Nowhere Boys is an Australian teen drama television series created by Tony Ayres. It was first broadcast on ABC3 on 7 November 2013. The first two series follow the adventures of four mismatched teenage boys – goth Felix Ferne, nerd Andrew "Andy" Lau, golden child Sam Conte, and alpha jock Jake Riles. Nowhere Boys was renewed for a second series which began airing from 23 November 2014. An 80-minute feature-length movie based on the show, titled Nowhere Boys: The Book of Shadows, premiered in selected Australian movie theatres on 1 January 2016. A third series of Nowhere Boys, titled Two Moons Rising, started airing in 2016 with a new cast and characters, replacing the original cast members. Win the Week is an Australian television comedy quiz show, which premiered on the ABC on 23 June 2021. The series is presented by Alex Lee, who quizzes three teams of paired celebrities and everyday Australian captains on the week's top news stories. At the end of each round, the team captains had the opportunity to "Stay" with their celebrity teammate or "Betray" them by swapping them with a celebrity from another team. In the first series, the winner of each show won a framed themed calendar with the week they had won coloured in gold. From the second series, the winner of each show won a golden "Betray" buzzer trophy.
