The Romany Rye is a band formed by Luke MacMaster, former guitarist of The Colour. Their first album, Highway 1, Looking Back Carefully, was released on October 5, 2009 with a track listing of eight songs. The band could be categorized as indie folk-rock and draws comparisons to the likes of Neil Young, My Morning Jacket, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, and many others. [1] [2] Kings of Leon guitarist Matthew Followill, whose band has its early roots in country rock, dubbed them a band to watch in 2010. [3] On January 3, 2012, they released their second album, "Quicksilver Sunbeam".
The band's song "Untitled (Love Song)" was covered by Counting Crows on their 2012 album Underwater Sunshine . [4]

On January 3, 2012, The Romany Rye released "Quicksilver Sunbeam." The album contained 12 tracks including "Brother" and "Untitled (Love Song)" from their previous release. Some albums were released with a bonus 13th track, "Yesterday's Boy".

In early February 2011, when Rolling Stone magazine created a contest called "Do You Wanna Be A Rock & Roll Star?", The Romany Rye was one of the 16 selected bands. [5] The contest pits these 16 up-and-coming bands against each other in a tournament where fans vote on the bands in order to progress them to the next round. The winner will be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. On March 16, it was announced that the band made it through into the second round, with 8 bands left. However, it was later reported that the band was disqualified due to a non disclosure agreement violation after Round Two. The Sheepdogs went on to win the competition and be the first ever unsigned band to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone.

The Black Crowes are an American rock band formed in Marietta, Georgia, in 1984. Their discography includes eight studio albums, four live albums and several charting singles. The band was signed to Def American Recordings in 1989 by producer George Drakoulias and released their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker, the following year. Their follow-up, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, reached the top of the Billboard 200 in 1992. The albums Amorica (1994), Three Snakes and One Charm (1996), By Your Side (1999), and Lions (2001) followed, with each showing moderate popularity but failing to capture the chart successes of the band's first two albums. After a hiatus from 2002 to 2005, the band regrouped and toured for several years before releasing Warpaint in 2008, which reached number 5 on the Billboard chart.

Shake Your Money Maker is the debut studio album by American rock band the Black Crowes, released on February 13, 1990 on Def American Recordings. It is the only album by the band to feature guitarist Jeff Cease. The album is named after a classic blues song written by Elmore James. The Black Crowes have played the song live many times over the years, but it is not included on this album.

Neal Graeme Casal was an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and photographer. First rising to prominence as lead guitar with Rickey Medlocke's Blackfoot from 1988 to 1993, he is also known as a member of Ryan Adams' backing band the Cardinals from 2005 until 2009, with whom he recorded three studio albums. He played in several groups, including the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Hard Working Americans, The Skiffle Players, GospelbeacH and Circles Around the Sun– and released twelve albums as a solo artist.
Easy Tiger is the ninth studio album by Ryan Adams, released on June 26, 2007, on the Lost Highway label. Although the album is attributed solely to Adams, Easy Tiger features The Cardinals as his backing band, with Adams stating: "The only real concept of this record was complete and utter collaboration." In an interview, Adams states that the album contains "very, very simple, very easy songs that, in my opinion, were written on the periphery of some more complex work." Easy Tiger marks the first appearance of both guitarist Neal Casal and bassist Chris Feinstein, following the departures of J.P. Bowersock and Catherine Popper, respectively. Following the album's release, producer James Candiloro would go on to join The Cardinals as the band's pianist and keyboard player.
Brian Fallon is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and main lyricist of the rock band The Gaslight Anthem, with whom he has recorded five studio albums. He is also a member of the duo the Horrible Crowes alongside the Gaslight Anthem's guitar technician and touring guitarist, Ian Perkins. Since 2016, Fallon has released four solo albums and one EP.

The Sheepdogs are a Canadian rock band formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2004. The Sheepdogs were the first unsigned band to make the cover of Rolling Stone and have gone on to a career featuring multi-platinum album sales and four Juno Awards.
Underwater Sunshine is the sixth studio album by American rock band Counting Crows, released on April 10, 2012, on Cooking Vinyl. The album is composed of cover songs, with vocalist Adam Duritz stating, "Sometimes it's great to play someone else's music and try to make it your own. Sometimes it's great just because it's fun."
