DeVry University is a privately owned for-profit university with its headquarters in Naperville, Illinois. It was founded in 1931 by Herman A. DeVry and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. DeVry is predominantly an online educator but does have campuses in the United States.

Founded in 1976, the university confers certificates and degrees at the certificate, associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree levels. The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is an American private college and culinary school specializing in culinary, baking, and pastry arts education. The school's primary campus is located in Hyde Park, New York, with branch campuses in St. Helena and Napa, California; San Antonio, Texas; and Singapore. The college, which was the first to teach culinary arts in the United States, offers associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees, and has the largest staff of American Culinary Federation Certified Master Chefs. Harvey Randall Wickes Memorial Stadium, known simply as Wickes Stadium, is a 6,800-seat football stadium located in Kochville, Michigan and is a part of the Ryder Center sports complex on the Saginaw Valley State University campus. It is home to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals football team. The Cardinals compete at the NCAA Division II level as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Eugene Raymond Marve was an American professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the San Diego Chargers. He played college football at Saginaw Valley State University and became the first player from the school to play in the NFL. He was inducted into the SVSU Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of its inaugural class in 2010.

Eric R. Gilbertson was the third and longest-serving President of Saginaw Valley State University, in the U.S. state of Michigan. He succeeded Dr. Jack McBride Ryder as President of SVSU in August 1989, serving until his retirement in February 2014. Since his arrival, approximately $196 million in construction has been completed on the SVSU campus, with enrollments increasing from 5,915 in fall semester 1989 to over 10,000 when he left office.
The University of Silicon Valley (USV) is a private for-profit university in San Jose, California, in Silicon Valley. Founded in 1887 as Cogswell Technical School, and later known as Cogswell Polytechnical College. It was the first technical training institution in the West and one of only two private universities, along with Stanford University, that were originally guaranteed a tax exemption in the Californian Constitution. USV is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission. Programs at Cogswell range from digital media to engineering, with an emphasis on digital animation, audio and music production, and video game design.

She holds the Michigan Wolverines women's basketball single-season record with 156 assists during the 1987–88 season.
The Battle of the Valleys is an NCAA Division II football rivalry between the Grand Valley State University Lakers and the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals which began in 1975. Both teams play in the GLIAC. Since 2003, the week leading up to the game has featured a fundraising competition between the two student bodies with proceeds being donated to local charities. Grand Valley and Saginaw Valley have met four times in the NCAA Division II football playoffs. While not considered part of the rivalry series, both teams count these games in the all-time head-to-head records and are included below.

Marsha Reall is an American former head coach of women's college basketball. She resigned after coaching one season at Purdue, to their then best ever record of 18–9. Reall started her coaching career at Saginaw Valley State University in 1979, becoming the first woman coach for their women's basketball program.

Stephen P. Jaksa is an American college baseball coach and former pitcher. Jaksa is the head baseball coach at Saginaw Valley State University. He played college baseball at Central Michigan University from 1974 to 1979 for head coach Dave Keilitz. He was the head baseball coach at Northwood University in 1998 and at Central Michigan from 2002 to 2019.
