The Sessions were a Canadian dance-rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia. The band won the world's largest battle of the bands, Emergenza, in 2006.

History

The Sessions formed in 2005. Members included bassist Tobias Jesso Jr. [1] drummer Martin Kottmeier, guitarist Tristan Norton and singer Josh Helgason.

In 2006, The Sessions joined the Emergenza band competition, along with 7,631 bands from 16 countries. The band won a competition in Calgary, and then moved on to the national competition in Montreal. [2] The Sessions won first place at the Emergenza finals in Rothenburg, Germany. [3]

The band recorded a six-song EP with producer Bob Rock, entitled The Sessions Is Listed as In a Relationship. [4] The album received a mixture of reviews. [5] [4] Two songs from the album, "My Love" and "18 Candles", were featured in the mountain biking film Seasons by The Collective. The beginning of "18 Candles" is used as some of the Question and Answer music in "Pawn Stars".

The Sessions toured the western United States in February 2008, hitting Popscene in San Francisco as well as dates in Las Vegas, Hollywood, and San Diego. Helgason left the band in March 2008 and co-formed Stars Blvd soon after. The band members did some session work in California, including recording with singer Melissa Cavatti. [1] [6]

Norton and Kottmeier have since co-formed electronic music DJ/production duo Young Bombs. Jesso started a career as a singer-songwriter. [1]

John Lodge (musician) British musician; bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of The Moody Blues

John Charles Lodge is an English musician, best known as bass guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter of the longstanding rock band the Moody Blues. He has also worked as a record producer and has collaborated with other musicians outside the band. In 2018, Lodge was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues.

Von Hertzen Brothers

Von Hertzen Brothers is a Finnish rock group formed in 2000, by three brothers. Their music is a mix of classic rock combined with progressive elements, folk, punk and contemporary rock. Each of the brothers have a notable history in the Finnish rock scene, starting from the early 1990s. The guitar-vocalist Kie von Hertzen has played in Don Huonot[fi] (1992-2003), the singer-guitarist Mikko von Hertzen is an ex-member of Egotrippi[fi] (1994-1998) and Lemonator (1995-1998), and the vocalist-bass guitarist Jonne von Hertzen won the National Rock Contest in 1998 with his band Cosmos Tango and later joined to play the bass in Jonna Tervomaa's band (1999-2005). From 2006 to 2016 the band had two other permanent members: Mikko Kaakkuriniemi on the drums and Juha Kuoppala on the keyboards. In 2017 the band returned to its 2006 lineup with Sami Kuoppamäki on drums. The current tour lineup also features the Swedish keyboard player Robert Engstrand.

Hey Ocean!

Hey Ocean! is a Canadian indie alternative rock and synthpop band formed in 2004 in Vancouver. David Beckingham and Ashleigh Ball had been friends since grade 6, joining with David Vertesi in the 2000s to form the band. The band consists of Ashleigh Ball (vocals/flute), David Beckingham (vocals/guitar), and David Vertesi (vocals/bass). Young Bombs are a Canadian electronic music duo currently signed to Astralwerks. The duo is based in Vancouver, Canada and is composed of DJ/producers Tristan Norton and Martin Kottmeier. Starting in 2014, the pair began working on remixes for acts like The Chainsmokers, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Galantis, and numerous others. In 2019, they began releasing original music for the first time with the single, "Starry Eyes", which reached No. 31 on the Dance Club Songs chart.
