The St. George Hotel, was a hotel built in 1906 in the historic town of St. George's, Bermuda. The hotel would have multiple owners through the years, including the Furness Bermuda Line and be one of their many properties on the island. The hotel was torn down in the 1970s and replaced by the St. George Club.
The hotel was constructed on Rose Hill overlooking the town of St. George and was opened in 1906. It had over 100 rooms and served as a winter tourist destination featuring "extensive grounds, private baths, luxurious furnishings, sun parlors, spacious verandas, large ballroom, orchestra, tennis and golf" [1] Next to the hotel was the bar the "Sea Venture" built in the shape of a ship. The hotel was renovated and expanded over the years, including a new wing, and one of the largest indoor swimming pools in Bermuda. [2] [3] The hotel had a golf course and a beach club at Achilles Bay.
The hotel was purchased by the Furness Bermuda Line in 1920, to coordinate with their ships bringing tourists to the island. [4] Since the ships docked in Hamilton, passengers wishing to stay at the hotel were brought by to the hotel by the Furness tender the Bermudian and later Castle Harbor. [4]
The hotel would be a popular winter holiday destination for many U.S. visitors, including F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda. [5]
The hotel would eventually be demolished and replaced with the current St. Georges Club, combination time share and hotel complex, that sits on the same site. Relics of the old hotel property include the golf course, beach club, and rose-walk, all part of the current hotels property. [6] [7] The St. Georges Club closed in 2020 [8] and would later be purchased by the St Regis Hotel group which refurbished and reopened the resort in May 2022. [9] [10] [11]

It is one of two Fairmont Hotels on the island, the second being the Fairmont Southampton, which was originally opened as the Southampton Princess.
Tucker's Town is a small community in St. George's Parish, Bermuda at the mouth of Castle Harbour. It is the only part of the parish on the Main Island, and includes the Tucker's Town Peninsula that today is the site of many homes belonging to wealthy non-Bermudians. The most densely populated part of Tucker's Town was historically situated west of Tucker's Town Bay, and was almost entirely cleared to make way for golf links.

Furness Bermuda Line was a UK shipping line that operated in the 20th century. It was part of Furness, Withy and ran passenger liners between New York and the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda from 1919 to 1966.
Furness Bermuda Line new service to Bermuda in the 1920s created the need of additional modern accommodations for the tourists coming to the island after the first World War. This lead for Furness Withy, parent company of the line, to begin buying existing hotels and purchasing land for this new demand. This led to the formation of the Bermuda Development Company which would Furness' new business development. Eventually the company would manage four main properties: The St George, The Mid Ocean Club, Bermudiana, and the Castle Harbor Hotel. The hotels would continue to see increased business and benefit from legislation passed that would prevent ships from being used as hotels in 1938. Furness Withy would eventually sell all its ownership in the hotels by 1958.
The Coolera Peninsula is a peninsula in Sligo Bay, County Sligo, Ireland. It is the most populous of County Sligo's peninsulas, and the second-largest by land area. The primary population centres on Coolera are the coastal town of Strandhill on its western shore, and Magheraboy, a suburb of Sligo town.
