Timberland LLC is an American manufacturer and retailer of outdoors wear, with a focus on footwear, which is often known colloquially as "Timbs." It is owned by VF Corporation. Timberland footwear is marketed towards people intending outdoor use. [4] It has also become a mainstay in urban attire. The company also sells apparel, such as clothes, watches, glasses, sunglasses, and leather goods.

Timberland's corporate headquarters are located in Stratham, New Hampshire. Timberland also operates from offices in other parts of the world, such as Australia. Horween Leather Company supplies leather shells for footwear to the Timberland Company. [5] [6]

In 1998, Jeffrey Swartz stepped up to become Chief Executive Officer of the company and brand that his grandfather, Nathan Swartz, uncle, and father had started. [7]

In February 2007, the company acquired Howies, the Welsh clothing company. [8]

In June 2011, Timberland signed a definitive takeover agreement with VF Corporation at $43 per share or approximately $2 billion. [9]

In 2012, Howies was sold to its management by VF. [10]

Smartwool is an American company founded by New England ski instructors Peter and Patty Duke in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1994. In 2005 The Timberland Company acquired Smartwool and in 2011 Smartwool became a subsidiary of VF Corporation upon VF Corporation's acquisition of The Timberland Company. The company makes eponymous products primarily from treated merino wool. Smartwool claims that this is a proprietary treatment that makes its products itch-free and resistant to shrinking. Smartwool is also claimed to have moisture-wicking performance and odor-reducing, anti-microbial properties; it is thus marketed primarily as performance apparel. Reviews for Smartwool products are typically found in the context of equipment for hiking and other outdoor activities. They offer products for women, men, and kids.

Howies

Howies is a clothing company based in west Wales. The company was founded in 1995 and produces eco-friendly T-shirts, jeans and sportswear, with the aim of having ethically correct practices. Howies use natural fabrics as alternatives to petrochemical-derived modern fabrics, including organic cotton, Merino wool and recycled cotton. Howies T-shirts often have images or slogans with political or environmental themes and are screen printed by hand in a workshop located at the brand headquarters.
