Characters
Eleda
The protagonist and narrator of the story. Has blue iris on the right and green on the left. Eleda is a truth-teller, born with the ability and compulsion to tell nothing but the truth. She can also sense when others are lying, with the exception of a young actor named Edgar who claims to love her.
Adele
Eleda's sister, the Secret Keeper. Has a blue iris on the left and a green one on the right. Is in love with Micah, her best friend Roeylnn's older brother. She purposely gives her sister food poisoning on one occasion; however it is revealed she did this in order to keep Eleda from rendezvousing with Edgar who plans to rape her.
Bob
The Father of Eleda and Adela married to Hannah. Runs the Leaf & Berry Inn, named for his daughters. He shows much enthusiasm when it is discovered that his daughters are a safe-keeper and a truth-teller. He believes that his daughters are "perfect" and occasionally cannot tell them apart but only for a few minutes at a time.
Hannah
The mother of Eleda and Adele married to Bob. Runs the Leaf and Berry Inn with her husband. Never mixes her daughters up and believes that they are wonderful and loves them dearly, but does not think they are "perfect". Is close friends with Melinda a dream-maker who stays at the inn frequently. She loves the girls' best friend Roelynn and mistakenly believes that she would love to be queen. She is quite a romantic and believes that the world is a fairytale.
Melinda
A dream-maker who frequently stays at the Leaf & Berry. Is very close to Hannah and always asks her what her greatest wish is whenever she sees her. Kindly, old, and high-class.
Prince Darian/Alexander
The prince and next in line for the throne. A trouble maker that never does what he's told and delights in worrying his mother.
Gregory/Tobin
The cousin to the prince. A trouble maker and always cheers the prince on whenever he does something wrong.
Roelynn
Beautiful and intelligent, she is the Daughter of Karro, the Wealthy Merchant. Sister to Micah, who is Adele's love interest. Frequently "falls in love" and disobeys her father repeatedly. Has been taken advantage of by young men before but learned from her mistakes and in the end helps to save Eleda from making the same mistake.
Karro
The wealthiest man in the city, but he is greedy and a cheat. He wants Roelynn to marry the Prince so he may be even more wealthy. He is only interested in himself, although he does show remorse when told that only son, Micah, has been lost at sea.
Micah
Karro's oldest child, Roelynn's brother. His character is quiet and keeps mostly to himself. He only go to Adele and Eleda's house because he must accompany Roelynn. He goes into his father shipping embargo and all believe he is dead when the ship goes missing. He has a love interest with Adele, the twin of keeping secrets.
Eileen
The daughter of a rich merchant who does business with Karro. She is beautiful, stuck up, and believes that every man is in love with her. When Eleda gets food poisoning from her sister and is unable to make her rendezvous with the handsome young actor Edgar she goes instead. Edgar rapes her and beats her then leaves her bleeding by the road.
Queen Lirabel
The mother of Prince Darian. She loves her son and daughter. She hopes that her son and Karro's daughter Roelynn will marry since she adores Roelynn however this proves to be difficult since every time she arranges for Roelynn and Darian to meet he doesn't show up.
Beautiful Girls is a 1996 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Ted Demme and written by Scott Rosenberg. Its story follows New York jazz pianist Willie Conway, as he heads back to his hometown of Knight's Ridge, Massachusetts for his high school reunion, where he finds his friends evaluating their lives and relationships. It stars Matt Dillon, Noah Emmerich, Lauren Holly, Timothy Hutton, Rosie O'Donnell, Martha Plimpton, Natalie Portman, Michael Rapaport, Mira Sorvino and Uma Thurman.
"Beauty and the Beast" is a fairy tale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and published in 1740 in La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins. Her lengthy version was abridged, rewritten, and published by French novelist Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1756 in Magasin des enfants to produce the version most commonly retold. Later, Andrew Lang retold the story in Blue Fairy Book, a part of the Fairy Book series, in 1889. The fairy tale was influenced by the story of Petrus Gonsalvus as well as Ancient Greek stories such as "Cupid and Psyche" from The Golden Ass, written by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis in the second century AD, and "The Pig King", an Italian fairytale published by Giovanni Francesco Straparola in The Facetious Nights of Straparola around 1550.

Sharon Watts is a fictional character from the BBC One soap opera EastEnders, played by Letitia Dean. Sharon was one of EastEnders' original characters conceptualised by creators Tony Holland and Julia Smith. She first appeared in the first episode broadcast on 19 February 1985 as the teenage adopted daughter of pub landlords Den and Angie Watts. Dean originally quit the role in 1995 after ten years, with Sharon departing following the breakdown of her marriage. In May 2001, Sharon was reintroduced by producer John Yorke, before departing in January 2006. Her works include the Shifting Circles Series, the Samaria Series, the Twelve Houses Series, and a rewriting of Jane Eyre, Jenna Starborn. She works as a journalist in St. Louis, Missouri and is a graduate of Northwestern University.
Kelly Windsor is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Emmerdale, played by Adele Silva. The character first appeared on 10 August 1993. Silva portrayed her from August 1993 until November 2000. In February 2005, it was announced that Silva would be reprising her role and she returned in June 2005. Silva left the soap once again in October 2007, and in November 2010, it was announced that Silva would be returning to Emmerdale in February 2011. Silva reprised the role for a period of three months and left again in May 2011.
Michelle Fowler is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Susan Tully from the show's first episode on 19 February 1985 up until the character's departure on 26 October 1995. She returned on 24 December 2016, with Jenna Russell taking over the role, before leaving the serial once again on 17 April 2018.
David Metcalfe is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Emmerdale, played by Matthew Wolfenden. It was reported in August 2023 that he was set to leave the soap after 17 years, due to a lack of "gritty" storylines. David's final scenes were broadcast on 30 November 2023.

The Rider is a short Ruritanian romance by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. It was written in 1915 and first published as "H.R.H. the Rider" as a serial in All-Story Weekly from December 14–28, 1918. Its first book publication paired it with an unrelated tale, The Oakdale Affair, in The Oakdale Affair and The Rider, issued by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. in February 1937 and subsequently reprinted by Grosset & Dunlap in 1937, 1938, and 1940. The story's first independent book publication was in a paperback edition from Ace Books in October 1974.
Peri Lomax is a fictional character from the British E4 soap opera Hollyoaks and is portrayed by Ruby O'Donnell. Peri made her first on-screen appearance in episode 3705, originally broadcast on 4 October 2013. After being introduced as the "sister" of pre-established longstanding character Ste Hay alongside her believed to be two sisters Leela Lomax and Tegan Lomax, the character was devised in a plot-twist meaning she was revealed to be the biological daughter of Leela who had conceived Peri at fourteen with childhood lover and serial killer Cameron Campbell who later murdered her grandparents. The character was placed at the forefront of an issue-led based storyline in 2015 when the character began portraying in a high-profile teenage pregnancy storyline alongside Tom Cunningham. The storyline resulted in the birth of Steph Cunningham-Lomax in episode 4202, originally broadcast on 1 September 2015. Since her teenage pregnancy storyline, Peri had recently been a suspect in the "Who Killed Rayne?" whodunit storyline, where it was later revealed to be her boyfriend Romeo Nightingale who departed the soap in February 2024.
Girl Meets Ghost is a children's novel series launched in 2013 by author Lauren Barnholdt about a tween girl who can see and talk with ghosts as she helps them move on to the afterlife, though what happens when ghosts "move on" is unclear.
Louise Mitchell is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, who has been played by four different actors since her on-screen birth on 6 November 2001. Louise has been played by Rachel Cox between 2001 and 2003, Danni Bennatar in 2008, Brittany Papple in 2010, and Tilly Keeper from 2016 to 2020. Keeper's casting was announced on 16 December 2015, and she made her first appearance as Louise on 15 January 2016.
