The Wake Weekly is an American weekly newspaper based in Wake Forest, North Carolina, primarily covering the North Carolina counties of Wake and Franklin.
From 2009–2019, it was published by Allen Publishing LLC, a corporation owned by Todd Allen, son of original owners Robert W. and Margaret G. Allen. Robert Allen acquired the newspaper in 1952 from his brother and owned and operated it for nearly 50 years with Margaret.
Margaret Allen was awarded the National Newspaper Association's Emma C. McKinney award [5] for community journalism. The Allens were named to the North Carolina Journalism Hall of fame in 2006 [6] the first couple to be jointly named. Because Margaret died on November 1, 2005, [7] she was given the award posthumously.
Allen Publishing, LLC, acquired the paper from the family in 2009 [8] and in early 2010, bought out the other members to become sole owner. The same year, The Wake Weekly name was replaced in its three primary coverage areas as The Franklin Weekly, The Rolesville-Wake Crossroads Weekly and The Wake Forest Weekly, under the auspices of The Wake Weekly Family of Community Newspapers.[ citation needed ]
The Wake Weekly has won multiple awards from the North Carolina Press Association. In 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2016, The Wake Weekly, and The Wake Forest Weekly were awarded First Place in General Excellence. [9] [10] and first place for sports reporting in 2015, and sports photography in 2018 under award-winning sports editor Marty Simpkins, among other awards. [11]
In January 2019, Allen Publishing, LLC sold the paper to the Wilson Times Company. [12]
The paper won first place in the Investigative Reporting category from the Inland Press Association [13] for their 2019 article "Town now says public emails to cost at least $15K."
The Phoenix was the name of several alternative weekly periodicals published in the United States of America by Phoenix Media/Communications Group of Boston, Massachusetts, including the Portland Phoenix and the now-defunct Boston Phoenix, Providence Phoenix and Worcester Phoenix. These publications emphasized local arts and entertainment coverage as well as lifestyle and political coverage. The Portland Phoenix, although it is still publishing, is now owned by another company, New Portland Publishing.

The Daily Tar Heel (DTH) is the independent student newspaper of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was founded on February 23, 1893, and became a daily newspaper in 1929. The paper places a focus on university news and sports, but it also includes heavy coverage of Orange County and North Carolina. In 2016, the paper moved from five days a week in print to four, cutting the Tuesday edition. In 2017, the paper began to print on only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In 2021, the paper began to print only on Wednesdays. All editorial content is overseen by student editors and a volunteer student staff of about 230 people. It's located at 109 E. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and it is the largest news organization in Orange County.

The Old Gold & Black is the student-run newspaper of Wake Forest University, named after the school's colors. The Old Gold & Black's office is located on the fifth floor of the Benson University Center on Wake Forest's main campus.

The Hillsboro Argus was a twice-weekly newspaper in the city of Hillsboro, Oregon, from 1894 to 2017, known as the Washington County Argus for its final year. The Argus was distributed in Washington County, Oregon, United States. First published in 1894, but later merged with the older, 1873-introduced Forest Grove Independent, the paper was owned by the McKinney family for more than 90 years prior to being sold to Advance Publications in 1999. The Argus was published weekly until 1953, then twice-weekly from 1953 until 2015. In early 2017, it was reported that the paper was planning to cease publication in March 2017. The final edition was that of March 29, 2017.

The Carrboro Citizen was a weekly newspaper based in Carrboro, North Carolina, USA. The Citizen covered Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, Orange County and northern Chatham County. It was published on Thursdays and distributed free in racks throughout the coverage area. The paper ceased publication in October 2012.
The Wilson Times is an American, English language semiweekly newspaper based in Wilson, North Carolina covering Wilson County. The newspaper is owned by Wilson Times Co. The paper began as Zion's Landmark, established in 1867 by the pastor of the Wilson Primitive Baptist Church, Elder P.D. Gold. In 1896 that pastor founded The Wilson Times, a weekly newspaper. In 1902 the paper began daily publication as The Wilson Daily Times. The newspaper previously offered commercial job print services, book and catalog printing, as well as ruling and bonding services. It also prints the Wilson County Phone Directory, Money Mailer, and Xpress Marketing publications. While initially occupying only a small brick corner store, the Wilson Times upgraded and moved to a custom-built, 30,000-square-foot office building in 1983. The Wilson Times joined the internet in 1997 under the domain wilsondaily.com. The newspaper relocated to its current downtown Wilson office in June 2017. In February 2021, the Times celebrated its 125th anniversary of continuous publication. The first edition of The Wilson Times was printed in February 1896.

The Alleghany News is a weekly newspaper, published in Sparta, North Carolina, United States. The newspaper is locally owned by Alleghany Holdings, LLC. The paper has its origins in The Alleghany Star, which was first published in 1889, by a man named A. S. Carson. In the 1930s, the Alleghany Star merged with Alleghany Times and became Alleghany News. As of 2016 the publisher of the paper was Coby Larue and the editor was Bob Bamberg.
