The Wants are an American no wave band from New York City.
Madison Velding-VanDam and Jason Gates first met in the Brooklyn music scene in 2014 and formed The Wants in 2016. [3] In 2018 and 2019 they began recording and touring, including in 2019 performing at SXSW, [4] ahead of their first studio album, Container , which came out on March 13, 2020. [5]
Container was met with positive critical reviews. [6]
In an interview with AdHoc Magazine, Velding-VanDam described their sound as a fusion of Detroit techno and New York City post-punk. [7]

They were signed to Lava Records in March 2017, and a month later they released their debut studio EP, Black Smoke Rising. Their debut single, "Highway Tune", topped the Billboard U.S. Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts in September 2017 for four weeks in a row. Their second EP, From the Fires, containing the four songs from Black Smoke Rising and four new songs, was released on November 10, 2017, alongside a second single, "Safari Song". From the Fires went on to win the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
"New Body" is an unreleased song by American rapper Kanye West featuring vocals from Ty Dolla Sign and Nicki Minaj. It was originally slated to be included on West's album Yandhi which was never released. The song's original lyrics are about body shaming and the stigma surrounding plastic surgery. A reworked version of the song featuring Christian-themed lyrics was later previewed at listening parties for West's ninth studio album Jesus Is King (2019). In June 2020, Minaj stated that she would contact West about potentially releasing the song after its leaked version became viral on TikTok.
