The fin. is a 2 piece indie rock band from Kobe, Japan, [1] currently consisting of lead vocalist Yuto Uchino and bassist/former drummer Kaoru Nakazawa. [2] Uchino and Nakazawa started the band in 2012 with guitarist Ryosuke Odagaki and original bassist Takayasu Taguchi, and released their first song "Faded Light" on SoundCloud in November of the same year. [3]

The band's style has been described as a blend of synth-pop and shoegaze from the 80's-90's with nowadays American indie-pop and chillwave. [4]

History

In 2015, The fin. performed at SXSW in Austin, Texas, as part of the Japan Nite showcase, which was their first opportunity to play outside Japan and began their first U.S. tour. [5] Later in the same year, they continued on to their first UK tour, supporting their debut EP Night Time, followed by their relocation to London in September 2016.

Former bassist Taguchi left the band in May 2017, [6] leading drummer Kaoru to take over the position as a bass player. [7]

Album

The band worked on their second album There with Bradley Spence, a producer known for his works with Jamiroquai, Passenger, Alt-J, and Radiohead, and Joe Lambert, a mastering engineer known for works for Beach Fossils, Wild Nothing, Washed Out and Warpaint. [8]

The album was released in Asia in March 2018, followed by a sold-out tour in support of the record. [9]

Music festivals

The band has performed as the supporting act for The Last Shadow Puppets, Circa Waves and MEW, performed at music festivals in Japan as well as embarked on world tours. [10]

Bush Tetras are an American post-punk No Wave band from New York City, formed in 1979. They are best known for the 1980 song "Too Many Creeps", which exemplified the band's sound of "jagged rhythms, slicing guitars, and sniping vocals". Although they did not achieve mainstream success, the Bush Tetras were influential and popular in the Manhattan club scene and college radio in the early 1980s. New York's post-punk revival of the 2000s was accompanied by a resurgence of interest in the genre, with the Tetras' influence heard in many of that scene's bands.

Ellegarden is a Japanese rock band formed in December 1998 in Chiba, Japan. Ellegarden consists of drummer Hirotaka Takahashi, vocalist/guitarist Takeshi Hosomi, guitarist Shinichi Ubukata, and bassist Yuichi Takada. In 2008, Ellegarden announced an indefinite hiatus, which lasted almost 10 years. In May 2018, Ellegarden announced a reunion with their first national tour since the hiatus.

Wintersleep is a Canadian indie rock band formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2001. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist and guitarist Paul Murphy, guitarist and keyboardist Tim d'Eon, and drummer Loel Campbell. In 2002, Jud Haynes joined the band as bass guitarist until 2007. In 2005, Mike Bigelow joined on keyboards until 2006, after which he played bass, until 2016. Since 2006, Jon Samuel has served as a backing vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist, while Chris Bell has served as a backing vocalist and bass guitarist since 2016. TsuShiMaMiRe is an all-girl Japanese rock trio. Their style is eclectic punk rock, mixing noisy and pop instrumental sounds with idiosyncratic, quirky, often funny or disturbing lyrics. They are one of the many bands to have become famous in the United States through the Austin, Texas South by Southwest music festival, and also through their performances at anime conventions, with the Suicide Girls, and at Benten Label's "Japan Girls Nite" U.S. tours.

D'erlanger is a Japanese rock band from Kyoto Prefecture, formed in 1983 by guitarist Cipher and bassist Seela. While they originally played speed and power metal, after recruiting drummer Tetsu and vocalist Kyo they switched to an alternative rock sound for their debut album La Vie En Rose in 1989. Although it was on an indie label, it sold out and was reissued three times that year, earning them a major label record deal with BMG Japan the following year. They released Basilisk in March 1990 and it reached the top five on the charts. However, in December the group suddenly announced their disbandment.

Jupiter One was an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2003. Inspired by a wide range of influences, they create upbeat indie pop songs, with a grounding in futuristic-sounding new wave-style synth sounds. Their self-titled and self-released debut album was distributed by Cordless Recordings in 2007, following another release of the album in 2008 under the Cordless Recordings label. The album Sunshower followed in 2009.

Slow Club were an English duo formed in Sheffield in 2006. The band consisted of multi-instrumentalists Charles Watson and Rebecca Lucy Taylor, with Watson contributing piano, Taylor contributing drums, and both performing guitar and vocals. The band split in 2017 following an extensive tour to support their last album, with both members moving on to solo projects.

It was founded originally as Creek when lead singer and guitarist Heather Baron-Gracie met drummer Ciara Doran while attending university in Manchester. The other members are guitarist Hugo Silvani and bassist Charlie Wood, completing the lineup. Pale Waves's early work is often described as 80s-inspired indie rock or synth-pop; their second and third albums, however, owe more to the pop-punk genre.
