[1]

The mission of TANYS is:

The current organization was formed in 1987 when the New York State Theatre Festival Association (NYSTFA) merged with the New York State Community Theatre Association (NYSCTA). [3] TANYS is administered by a Board of Trustees, elected at an Annual Meeting. [4] TANYS is a member of the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) and the Eastern States Theatre Association (ESTA).

TANYS Member Services

Among its services for its members, TANYS administers a Lending Library of theatrical scripts, [5] and conducts home site adjudications of school and community theatre productions throughout New York State. [6] Member organizations may request one of three types of TANYS adjudications: for learning only, for evaluation of technical elements, or for the production to be considered for invitation to TANYS's annual theatre Festival. [7] TANYS is unique among theatrical organizations in the United States for its formal training program for its adjudicators, which is modeled on the adjudicator training program of the American Association of Community Theatre. [8]

Ten Points of Consideration for TANYS Adjudication [9]

When conducting an adjudication, a TANYS adjudicator uses the Ten Points of Consideration:

  1. Is the acting believable and technically skillful with effective timing?
  2. Are the characters well-interpreted?
  3. Does the company display ensemble work?
  4. Is the material appropriate for the company?
  5. Is the concept appropriate for the material and realized by the company?
  6. Has the structure of the production been controlled?
  7. Are the movements and stage pictures effective?
  8. Is the production well paced?
  9. Do the technical elements support the overall production?
  10. How was the total impact?

TANYS Awards [10]

TANYS gives several awards annually and on an ongoing, year-round basis. These include awards to individuals and organizations for exemplary, long-time service in community theatre; [11] [12] [13] annual Festival Awards, [14] given by Festival adjudicators to recognize achievement in productions presented at the annual TANYS Festival; and ongoing, year-round Roving Adjudicator Merit awards, [15] given by home site adjudicators to recognize achievements in home site theatrical productions.
