Theresia Orchestra is managed by Fondazione ICONS,. [1] a non profit organization based in Italy. [2] It was founded in 2012 at the instigation of a group of patrons. [3] [4] Fondazione ICONS provides annual study grants to its musicians for the musical specialization through their participation in the orchestra. [5]
The orchestra operates in a residential format, with musicians gathering for short periods (typically about one week) several times a year to prepare for concert tours across various European venues. Membership is open to musicians under the age of 28, who are usually completing their studies in historically informed performance practice and seeking initial experience in orchestral playing on period instruments. Since its foundation, the orchestra has welcomed members from over 40 different nationalities, reflecting the project's international spirit. [6]
Theresia Orchestra has a formative mission for early-career musicians. [5] It offers online courses to develop soft skills and collaborates with professional ensembles like Il Giardino Armonico, [7] fostering direct professional connections. The goal is to facilitate the smooth integration of its members into professional musical careers.
The orchestra takes its name from Maria Theresia, [8] Empress of Austria. Theresia Orchestra also runs an ambassadorship program aimed at actively promoting classical music. This program focuses particularly on reaching children and teenagers with limited access to this cultural heritage, presenting the historical context of compositions and encouraging cultural exchange and dialogue [9] [10]

In 2022, Theresia entered the group of the leading European youth orchestras co-funded by the European Commission alongside European Union Youth Orchestra and other talent development orchestral projects. [34]
A member of the European Early Music Network (REMA) [35] and the European Mozartways - Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, [36] Theresia Orchestra is currently supported and managed by the Italian foundation ICONS and by the European Commission through the project EMPOWER [9] funded by the Creative Europe Programme, which aims to support Theresia Orchestra in providing young musicians with training in historically informed performance, enhancing their professional skills, and promoting classical music to new audiences across Europe.
Domenico Cimarosa was an Italian composer of the Neapolitan School and of the Classical period. He wrote more than eighty operas, the best known of which is Il matrimonio segreto (1792); most of his operas are comedies. He also wrote instrumental works and church music.

Luis Ernesto Alva y Talledo, better known as Luigi Alva is a Peruvian operatic tenor. A Mozart and Rossini specialist, Alva achieved fame with roles such as Don Ottavio, Count Almaviva and Fenton. He retired from the stage in 1989.
Gustaf Allan Pettersson was a Swedish composer and violist. He is considered one of the 20th century's most important Swedish composers and was described as one of the last great symphonists, often compared to Gustav Mahler. His music can hardly be confused with other 20th-century works. In the final decade of his life, his symphonies developed an international following, particularly in Germany and Sweden. Of these, his best known work is Symphony No. 7. His music later found success in the United States. The conductors Antal Doráti and Sergiu Comissiona premiered and recorded several of his symphonies. Pettersson's song cycle Barefoot Songs influenced many of his compositions. Doráti arranged eight of the Barefoot Songs. Birgit Cullberg produced three ballets based on Pettersson's music.
Philip Cipriani Hambly Potter was an English musician. He was a composer, pianist, conductor and teacher. After an early career as a performer and composer, he was a teacher in the Royal Academy of Music in London and was its principal from 1832 to 1859.
Countess Maria Theodora Paulina "Dora" Pejačević was a Croatian composer, pianist and violinist and one of the first composers to introduce the orchestral song to Croatian music. Her Symphony in F-sharp minor is considered by scholars to be the first modern symphony in Croatian music. Pejačević is noted for her vocal compositions, piano miniatures, and string quartets, which were heavily influenced by the expressionist and modernist trends of the time.

Margherita Rinaldi was an Italian lyric soprano, primarily active in the 1960s and 1970s, after she made her debut as Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor in 1958, prompting her career at La Scala in Milan. She also appeared internationally, performing a wide repertoire including, besides Italian belcanto roles, Baroque and French opera. She recorded the roles of Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto and Ilia in Mozart's Idomeneo. From 1981, she worked as a voice teacher.

The opera buffa premiered at the Teatro dei Fiorentini in Naples, Italy, on 26 August 1794. The opera was subsequently performed in Barcelona in 1795, Lisbon in 1797, Vienna in 1799, Paris in 1802, and London in 1804, remaining popular during the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Although not performed often today, the opera is still occasionally revived and a number of recordings have been made.

Boris Carmeli was a Polish operatic basso profondo known for his "fervent rich hued tones" and extensive repertory of more than 70 operas and 60 oratorios. During his long career, he appeared regularly at La Scala in Milan and other major opera houses internationally. In addition to the classical bass repertoire, he performed contemporary music including major works by Krzysztof Penderecki and Karlheinz Stockhausen. He appeared at international music festivals, on Italian television, and in many opera films.
L'Idalma, ovvero chi dura la vince is an opera by Bernardo Pasquini to a libretto by Giuseppe Domenico de Totis. It premiered on 6 February 1680 at the Teatro Capranica, Rome.
Boris Goudenow is a German-language opera composed in 1710 by Johann Mattheson. The plot concerns intrigues among tsars Feodor I and Boris Godunov and tsarina Irina Godunova, and a cast of Russian, Danish and Swedish nobles. It was never performed during Mattheson's life – possibly due to concerns about Hamburg's relations with Russia. The manuscript, taken to the Soviet Union at the end of World War II, was discovered in Armenia. The opera was finally premiered in 2005 in concert in Hamburg, then a scenic premiere in Boston under Stephen Stubbs. It was given the first European scenic performance at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music by Concerto Theresia under Andrea Marchiol in 2021. A recording of this performance was issued by cpo.
