Thieme and Wagner Brewing Company was founded in 1863 by Frederick August Thieme and John Wagner, both of whom were immigrants from Germany. The brewery was located at the corner of 4th and Union Streets. At its height, the brewery was producing 100,000 [1] barrels of beer annually and was the 6th largest brewery in Indiana. The brewery lasted until 1918, when Prohibition forced it to become The National Fruit Juice Company, which produced near beer in addition to an apple drink called Apella. The family made the decision to not lay off a single employee after the wake of Prohibition. This high payroll and a rise in the price of ingredients caused the company to sell out to the Valentine Blatz Brewing Co. They used nearly all of the money from the sale to pay back their business debt.
With the repeal of Prohibition, Lafayette Brewing Inc. moved into the old Thieme & Wagner brewery [2] and produced their own take on T & W's famous Ye Tavern Brew. Lafayette Brewery Inc. closed down around 1940. This operation closed in 1960 a victim of all the consolidation in the brewing industry during this time. In 1963, the city of Lafayette tore down the Thieme & Wagner Brewing complex in order to build the Harrison bridge.
The Thieme and Wagner Brewing Company have since been resurrected by the 5th and 6th generation father and son duo of Brian and David Thieme. [3] This operation is located at 652 Main Street Lafayette, Indiana. David is brewing traditional German-American lagers on the 1-Bbl brewsystem in the basement. Upstairs their cozy taproom features their brews, a full bar, and light pub fare.
In the summer of 2017, David fulfilled his quest to find the missing recipe from his ancestors brewery. Through Ancestry he found Boonie Ramsey (Haas), the great-granddaughter of William Haas, the Thieme & Wagner Brewmaster from the early 1900s. She graciously shared with David the contents of his brewing journal, which contained the recipes to Ye Tavern Brew and the infamous Bock Beer. David brews and sells the Bock beer recipe at his taproom.
Celis White is a beer brand. Pierre Celis revived the Belgian style witbier in 1965 in Hoegaarden then moved to Austin, Texas in 1991 to start the Celis Brewery, where the witbier was being brewed amongst all his other beers like Grand cru Tripel, Pale Bock and raspberry.
D. G. Yuengling & Son, established in 1829, is the oldest operating brewing company in the United States. Hudepohl Brewing Company is a brewery established in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1885 by founder Ludwig Hudepohl II. Hudepohl was the son of Ludwig Hudepohl who emigrated from Malgarten, Kingdom of Hannover, in 1838. Ludwig II had worked in the surgical tool business before starting his brewery. Hudepohl combined with Schoenling Brewing Company in 1986. Today, the Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Christian Moerlein Brewing Company.
The August Schell Brewing Company is a brewing company in New Ulm, Minnesota, that was founded by German immigrant August Schell in 1860. It is the second oldest family-owned brewery in America and became the oldest and largest brewery in Minnesota when the company bought the Grain Belt rights in 2002. In September 2010, the brewery celebrated its 150th anniversary with a two-day festival. Every year, Schell's also celebrates traditional German holidays with Bock Fest and Oktoberfest. The current brewery is owned and operated by the August Schell Brewing Company, a Minnesota corporation that was incorporated in 1902.
The Falstaff Brewing Corporation was an American brewery located in St. Louis, Missouri. With roots in the 1838 Lemp Brewery of St. Louis, the company was renamed after the Shakespearean character Sir John Falstaff in 1903. Production peaked in 1965 with 7,010,218 barrels brewed and then dropped 70 percent in the next 10 years. While its smaller labels linger on today, its main label Falstaff Beer went out of production in 2005. The rights to the brand are owned by Pabst Brewing Company.

The Christian Schmidt Brewing Company was an American brewing company headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1860, it was the largest brewing company in the history of Philadelphia, producing nearly 4,000,000 barrels of beer a year in the late 1970s. When it closed in 1987, it marked the first time in over 300 years that there was no brewery operating in Philadelphia.
Rhinegeist Brewery is a craft brewery and craft cidery based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company also sells their ciders under the name Cidergeist, using an alternative apple-shaped skull logo. The brewery's 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2) taproom and production facility is located in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, and occupies the former, pre-Prohibition bottling plant of Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. Rhinegeist operates an additional shipping, storage and innovation brewing facility in Cincinnati's Camp Washington neighborhood.
Saint Vincent Beer was a dark lager brewed by monks at Saint Vincent Archabbey in Unity Township, Pennsylvania, United States, between 1856 and 1918. Pope Pius IX granted the monks permission to brew in 1852, ending a dispute with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. The brewery was located in a log cabin near the Saint Vincent Archabbey Gristmill and a brick building supplemented the cabin in 1868. After production ceased, the monastery used the buildings for storage until they burned down in 1926. The walls were removed from the site in 1995 during the restoration of the gristmill.
