This Ascension is a gothic/ethereal band from Santa Barbara, Southern California that formed in 1988. They released four albums and two 7" vinyl singles on their label Tess Records, between 1989 and 1999. They also released a best of compilation: "Deeper and Further Away" on Projekt Records in 2014.
This Ascension toured coast to coast in the United States in 1994, 1995, and 1997. The band also toured the west coast prolifically, sharing the stage with bands including Clan of Xymox, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Chris Isaak, The Wolfgang Press, Pixies and The Stranglers.
After Tess Records gave up the ghost in 2001, the band signed with Projekt Records. Their back catalogue was re-released, though the band became inactive soon afterwards. The group re-united with bassist Cynthia Coulter for several shows in 2004 and announced plans to write and record new material in 2013. The band also performed a reunion show in October, 2015 in Houston, Texas.
Vocalist Dru Allen (Dru) (b. 11 November 1969) has sung for the neo-classical project Mirabilis and the ambient/electronic act Falling You. Dru and Cynthia Coulter have gone on to join Erick R. Scheid in the ethereal goth/shoegazing band Mercury's Antennae.
Bassist Cynthia Coulter (Cindy) (b. 22 February 1971), younger sister of William Faith (William Coulter), went on to become the touring bassist for Faith & the Muse from 1999 - 2007. She later relocated from Van Nuys, CA to Portland, OR and became the bassist for the Portland-based band 'Pitchfork Motorway'.
Founding guitarist Kevin Serra (b. 4 July 1971), studied music theory in New York, and ran the music review site Kevchino. Serra records music for a singles project with guest vocalists under the name Cloud Seeding. The first single "Ink Jar/Unquestioning" features Boston's Marissa Nadler, which was followed by a second single "The Light."
Former Bassist Charlie Dennis re-joined his previous band Nerf Herder.
This Ascension's cover of the song "Carol Of The Bells" was featured on ABC TV show Brothers & Sisters during the episode "Cold Turkey" which aired on December 12, 2010.

Bush Tetras are an American post-punk No Wave band from New York City, formed in 1979. They are best known for the 1980 song "Too Many Creeps", which exemplified the band's sound of "jagged rhythms, slicing guitars, and sniping vocals". Although they did not achieve mainstream success, the Bush Tetras were influential and popular in the Manhattan club scene and college radio in the early 1980s. New York's post-punk revival of the 2000s was accompanied by a resurgence of interest in the genre, with the Tetras' influence heard in many of that scene's bands.

Mirabilis is an American neoclassical dark wave musical project formed in 2001 by Dru Allen of This Ascension and Summer Bowman of the Machine in the Garden. Mirabilis uses vocals as the primary instrumentation, crafting original musical compositions and interpreting traditional classical vocal pieces from a number of different periods. The music is melodic and borrows from classical, ethereal, darkwave, and gothic genres. The name Mirabilis is Latin for something that is wonderful, miraculous, or unusual.
Falling You is an American ambient/electronic project based in San Francisco, California, United States. The band was founded by composer and musician, John Michael Zorko, with then-partner, Jennifer McPeak, serving as lyricist and vocalist. After their 1998 debut album, Mercy, the couple broke up and the band seemed to go on hiatus. In the early 2000s Zorko began collaborating with a rotating roster of female vocalists on new music, though McPeak continued to contribute sporadically to subsequent albums. Notable guest vocalists include Dru Allen, Victoria Lloyd, Suzanne Perry, Anji Bee (Lovespirals), Monica Richards, Amanda Kramer, Shikhee, Kirsty Hawkshaw (Delerium), Aimee Page, Sara Ayers, and Erica Mulkey (Unwoman).
The Pleasure Seekers was a 1960s-era, all-female rock band from Detroit, Michigan. The band morphed into Cradle, changing direction musically. They are known in large part due to the later prominence of band member Suzi Quatro.
Anti-M is a Santa Barbara based mostly electronic rock band. The band had the fortune of working with Ronnie Montrose, who played guitar as a guest on Anti-M's second album, Positively Negative.
Still Pending was an American punk children band, formed in Portland, Oregon, United States, in 2005. The band originally comprising three young musicians, Reed Gulick-Stutz, Grant Ellman, and Ian Rogers. In June 2007, Rogers left the band and was replaced by Andrew Turel in August 2007. It is rumored that the band broke up due to drummer and vocalist Grant Ellman embarking on a Jamaican Patois vocalism and lyric training course, leaving little time for him to perform his band duties because of the intense training schedule. Dan Cunneen is an American musician, songwriter, disc jockey, screen printer and graphic designer originally from Portland, Oregon, United States. He is best known for his drumming with the 1980s Portland bands Final Warning and The Obituaries, as well as the 1990s Seattle bands Zipgun and Nightcaps. In 2020, Cunneen began recording under the moniker Dan Steely. He occasionally plays drums with the Perkins Coie Band, the in house band for the Seattle law firm Perkins Coie. As Dan Steely, Cunneen is currently the lead singer and principal songwriter for the Seattle-based band Roxbury Saints.

Cidny Bullens is an American singer-songwriter, who is best known for serving as backup vocalist on tours and albums with Elton John and Rod Stewart, providing vocals on the soundtrack of the 1978 feature film Grease, and for nine critically acclaimed solo albums. In 2012, Bullens publicly came out as a transgender man and changed his name to Cidny Bullens.
Sam Rosenthal is an American musician, composer, artist, and novelist. He is the founder and leader of the band Black Tape for a Blue Girl and the Projekt Records record label. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his son and cat. Rosenthal was interviewed in August 2016 for an NPR piece about the DMCA. "It's a really unreasonable expectation," he says, "that I would have the time to chase all day when I should be running a business and making music."
Trance to the Sun (1990–present) is a neo-psychedelic post-punk band originally based out of Santa Barbara, California. The band consists of multi-instrumentalist Ashkelon Sain as the primary songwriter, performer and producer, and has featured three full-time vocalists—Ingrid Blue (1997–present), Dawn Michelle Wagner (1997), and Zoë Alexandra Wakefield (1993–1996). Trance to the Sun recordings have often included guest contributors, and tour line-ups have usually included one or more additional musicians. Currently, the band consists of Ashkelon Sain, Ingrid Luna, and Daniel Henderson, with additional live musician Terry Luna on bass guitar.
