Fr. Thomas Carroll is an Irish priest in the Greek Orthodox Church. His parish in Dublin is part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain.
Thomas Carroll grew up in Co. Tipperary, to a Catholic family, with a strong military tradition, he served in the Irish Armed Forces as part of the UN Mission in Cyprus in the 1960s. Thomas Carroll was accepted into the Orthodox church on Palm Sunday 1986.[ citation needed ]
He took early retirement in 1996 going on to study Theology, with a view to becoming a Greek Orthodox priest. [1] Fr Oeconomos Thomas Irenaeos Basil Carroll, was ordained a deacon and priest of the Orthodox church, the first Irish born person ordained. [2] He is a graduate of St. Patrick's, Carlow College earning a BA degree in Humanities (Philosophy and Theology). He also holds a post graduate diploma in communications (Kairos/Maynooth) and a master's degree in Theology from the Pontifical University, Maynooth. [3]
Since 2007 Fr Carroll has been responsible for the Church of the Annunciation in Arbour Hill in Dublin. [4] Fr. Carroll represents the Greek Orthodox community at Irish state events such as the 1916 commemorations, world war commemorations etc.. He also represents the Church at the Irish and Dublin Council of Churches. [5] After 17 years as parish priest in 2020 he retired as a full-time priest, but he still serves in the parish supporting the new priest in charge The Very Revd. Protopresbyter Ioannis Pantelides. The institution was founded in 1937 as Holy Cross Theological School in Pomfret, Connecticut, but was moved to Brookline, Massachusetts in 1947.
The Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain is an archdiocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in the Eastern Orthodox Church. The incumbent archeparch is Nikitas Loulias. The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, Manchester is a Greek Orthodox church in Salford, Greater Manchester. Completed in 1861 in a classical architectural style, it is the oldest purpose-built Greek Orthodox church in England and since 1980, a grade II listed building for its “special architectural or historic interest”. As of 2017 the church provides liturgies on Sundays and acts as a hub for a community of an estimated 2,500 Greek diaspora, particularly Greek Cypriots, British Cypriots and Greek students in Manchester.

Gregorios Theocharous of Thyateira and Great Britain served as the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. He was elected Archbishop by the Sacred and Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on 16 April 1988. He resigned on 12 June 2019 for health reasons and has been succeeded by Nikitas Loulias. He died on 20 November 2019. His funeral took place on 5 December 2019 at St Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, Wood Green.

He formally served as the Auxiliary bishop, with the title of The Once Glorious Bishop of Nilopolis, from 2022 to 2024. He was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Nigeria on 15 February 2024, in Alexandria, Egypt.
