Thomas Peyroton-Dartet (born 9 July 1985) is a French para-cyclist.

Career

Peyroton-Dartet began competing at the age of thirteen. [1] He is the son of a police officer. [1]

In 2017, Peyroton-Dartet was the victim of a serious accident with a scooter while participating in the Tour de Tahiti. [1] Suffering from multiple facial fractures and a brain hematoma, he returned to competition seven months later. In 2021, he suffered another fall during training when he hit a car stopped in the middle of the road. Disabled by cerebellar ataxia, he continues to practice cycling and paracycling events.

Peyroton-Dartet was European road racing champion in 2022 and vice-world champion in 2023. [2] [1] He joined the police in 2010, where he is part of the sports team. [1] He has qualified for the 2024 Paralympic Games in the road and track events in the C3 category. [3] [2]

On 20 April 2017, three French National Police officers were shot by Karim Cheurfi, a French national wielding an AK-47 rifle on the Champs-Élysées boulevard in Paris. One officer, French National Police Captain Xavier Jugelé, was killed and two other French National Police officers and a German tourist were seriously wounded. Karim Cheurfi was then shot dead by police. Amaq News Agency, which is linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), claimed the attacker was an ISIS fighter. French police and prosecutors are investigating the attack as terrorism, and have launched a counter-terrorism prosecution.

On the morning of 9 August 2017, a car rammed into a group of soldiers in the Levallois-Perret commune in the northwestern suburbs of Paris. Six soldiers patrolling the area as part of Opération Sentinelle were injured in the attack, three of them seriously. The driver fled the scene and, several hours later, was shot and arrested by an elite police unit on a highway near the town of Marquise, Pas-de-Calais after attempting to ram a roadblock. According to the French police the incident was terrorist-related. The attack is part of a series of similar attacks by jihadists in Western countries.
