Tim Cooney (born June 14, 1951 in Glendale, California) is an American film production sound mixer, animal trainer and musician.
Cooney was born in Glendale, California but then later moved to West Virginia. At a young age, pursuing his desire to be musician, he joined a bluegrass band called the Canfields, playing guitar.[ citation needed ]
After graduating from the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, he worked as a clown for Circus Vargas for a year but decided he wanted to train animals. He trained animals for circuses, the St. Louis Zoo, and then the film business.[ citation needed ]
In 1976, Cooney started working as a boom man on the motion picture Roar considered to be the most dangerous film ever made then at Universal Studios. His first studio picture as production mixer was Blue Thunder for Columbia Pictures in 1981. Cooney was the first production mixer in history to have sound on his own web page. [1] He had several animated items on his page as well, which had not been done at the time. The page has been taken down since his retirement. Cooney sat twice on the board of directors of the Cinema Audio Society is still a member of the motion picture academy of arts and sciences and the television academy of arts and sciences. Cooney was a producer on the movie the November Conspiracy. He also directed a few music videos, the most notable "About Love" with the singer Johnny Rivers. But one of his biggest works is for the movie Cliffhanger where he was nominated for an Academy Award.
Cooney has received nominations for various awards that include an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound for Cliffhanger , [2] three Emmys nominations, two Cinema Audio Society nominations For Outstanding Achievement In Sound Mixing and three Golden Reel Award nominations. The award used to go to the studio sound departments until a rule change in 1969 said it should be awarded to the specific technicians, the first of which were Murray Spivack and Jack Solomon for Hello, Dolly!. It is generally awarded to the production sound mixers, re-recording mixers, and supervising sound editors of the winning film. In the lists below, the winner of the award for each year is shown first, followed by the other nominees. Before the 93rd Academy Awards, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing were separate categories.

He was a seven-time Academy Award nominee for Best Sound, a BAFTA award winner for Best Sound for Fame and was President of Post Production Facilities at Sony Pictures Studios. During his tenure at Sony Pictures Studios, he led the American team in the development of Sony Dynamic Digital Sound the discrete eight-channel playback system for motion picture sound.
Tom Fleischman is an American sound engineer and re-recording mixer. He is the son of film editor Dede Allen, and documentary producer, director, and writer Stephen Fleischman. He has worked on over 170 films since 1978. He won an Academy Award in 2011 in the category Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for Hugo and has received four other Oscar nominations for Reds (1982), The Silence of the Lambs (1992), Gangs of New York (2003), and The Aviator (2004).

David Acord is an American sound editor and voice actor best known for his contribution as a supervising sound editor of the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Acord received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing and British Academy Film Award for Best Sound for his work on The Force Awakens, with fellow sound editor Matthew Wood. He also provided the voice of several characters in the film, including the stormtrooper FN-2199. Though the voice role is minimal, the character gained considerable attention on the Internet following the film's release. Acord also had minor voice roles as an Imperial Male PA and two stormtroopers on episodes of Star Wars Rebels. Acord also voiced Grogu for the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian. In 2015, Acord was one of the sound designers for Disney Infinity video game. In 2020, he received his second Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Editing for 2019 film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, shared with Matthew Wood.
