Tim Davis (born December 26, 1967) is an American singer, vocal arranger, actor, and music producer. He has arranged and produced vocalists and music on film, television, and artist recordings.
Davis has worked with artists including Barbra Streisand, Ariana Grande, Idina Menzel, Tyler The Creator, Nat King Cole, Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Pentatonix, Mariah Carey, Bette Midler, CeeLo Green, Keith Urban, Danny Gokey, Josh Groban, Fantasia Barrino, Faith Hill, Rachel Platten, Barry Manilow, among others. [1] He is also a member of the Adventist gospel group Heritage Singers, producing music and coaching vocals since 1992.
He started off playing piano and low brass. He started singing in college. He graduated as a business major and had no aspirations to have a career in music. He started his business career at a paper company where, not long after, he realized that it was not for him. He "started asking God to help [him] find [his] way”. Pretty soon, he received a call from his college roommate who recommended he try out the Heritage Singers gospel group that had recently performed at his church. Tim auditioned for the group, was offered a position, and immediately quit his business job to set out on his adventure as a professional vocalist. [2]
During the 45th anniversary reunion of the group, Davis shared how he was fired six months after he initially joined presumingly due to shady behavior, but somehow returned to the group as their music producer, singing a few concerts at a time. He married his wife Melody Joy in 1995 while they were both in the group. They have a son named Christian (b.1997) and a daughter named Summer Joy (b.2005).
With this group, Tim got his first taste of recording vocals in the studio, something he calls his "happy place." After three years in Nashville where Tim further delved into studio singing, he and his family made the move to California (first to Orange County, and soon to Los Angeles), where opportunities to sing on TV and in films began to materialize.
He has served as a vocal contractor and music producer for shows like Glee (TV series), The Goldbergs, American Horror Story, American Idol, The Oscars, among others. He has also worked on many projects for The Walt Disney Company, starting with Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas and most notably including Disneyland's Soundsational Parade.
He has made albums of his own, especially holiday ones with Christmas Dreaming being the most prolific. [3] He directs choirs and coaches vocals and is working on training up-and-coming session singers for the future ahead.
He has collaborated with Jane Lynch since his work on Glee. Along with Kate Flannery, the two of them collaborated on Lynch's holiday album A Swingin' Little Christmas [4] and head a cabaret-style holiday tour to go with it. [5]
