Tollgate House was a nineteen floor office building in the city of Bristol, England. It was located at the southern end of the M32 motorway leading into the city centre.

The M32 is a motorway in South Gloucestershire and Bristol, England, which at roughly 4.4 miles (7.1 km) is one of Britain's shortest. It provides a link from the M4, a major motorway linking London and South Wales, to Bristol city centre and is maintained by Highways England, the national roads body.
The building was completed in 1975 and was the second tallest building in the city at the time of completion, with a height of 77 metres (253 ft). It cost about £3.5 million to build and contained some of the most modern features in British civil architecture, including full air-conditioning. By the 21st century, it was regarded by some as outdated and unfashionable; the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)'s president, George Ferguson, called Tollgate House one of the ugliest buildings in Britain.

In 2003, the site was compulsory purchased for redevelopment by Bristol City Council.In December 2005, the council announced that Tollgate House would be demolished as part of a £500 million revamp of the Broadmead retail area. It was replaced by the car-park for the Cabot Circus retail development. The building could not be demolished by explosives owing to nearby properties, so was dismantled floor by floor. The work took several months to complete and was finished by May 2006, at a total cost of £3.5 million (the same amount to construct it in the first place). The development received a BREEAM rating of "excellent", in part for recycling 90% of the waste generated during demolition on the site. The project was part of a greater redevelopment of Bristol city centre.
Cabot Circus is a shopping centre in Bristol, England. It is adjacent to Broadmead, a shopping district in Bristol city centre. The Cabot Circus development area contains shops, offices, a cinema, hotel and 250 apartments. It covers a total of 139,350 m2 (1,500,000 sq ft) floor space, of which 92,900 m2 (1,000,000 sq ft) is retail outlets and leisure facilities. It opened in September 2008, after a ten-year planning and building project costing £500 million.

Bristol city centre is the commercial, cultural and business centre of Bristol, England. It is the area north of the New Cut of the River Avon, bounded by Clifton Wood and Clifton to the north-west, Kingsdown and Cotham to the north, and St Pauls, Lawrence Hill and St Phillip's Marsh to the east. The area consists of the council wards of Central, Hotwells & Harbourside, and part of Lawrence Hill.
In 2009, the council were ordered to pay £4.5 million to Ridgeland Properties Ltd, former owners of Tollgate House, after the compulsory purchase price was determined to be too low.

Oriental City was a shopping centre in Colindale, London, originally built by Yaohan of Japan, as a luxury Japanese shopping center. After Yaohan filed for bankruptcy in the late 1990s, it became a lower-end mall specialising in various oriental foods and items. It was located on Edgware Road, near Colindale tube station. It had a dedicated car park, and 2 floors. The complex was closed for redevelopment on 1 June 2008 and, after several changes of ownership, was demolished in August 2014.
Castlemead is the tallest high-rise building in Bristol, England. Designed by A.J. Hines and started in 1973, work was halted by a recession in the property market and it was completed in 1981. The building has a roof height of 80 metres or 262 feet and consists of 18 floors, 17 of which are offices. Castlemead is owned by Regional Properties Ltd and managed by Knight Frank LLP.

Upon opening on 3 September 2013, it replaced Birmingham Central Library. The library, which is estimated to have cost £188.8 million, is viewed by the Birmingham City Council as a flagship project for the city's redevelopment. Gateway House in Manchester, England, is a modernist office block above a row of shops designed by Richard Seifert & Partners and completed in 1969. It replaced a row of 19th-century railway warehouses on the approach to Manchester Piccadilly station. The building, which differed from much of Seifert's contemporary work in that it departed from the bare concrete brutalist style which had become his trademark, was nicknamed the "lazy S" and was reputedly designed as a doodle.
