Tom Mattera (born 27 January 1979) is an American filmmaker, writer and producer.
Mattera was born and grew up in South Philadelphia. Tom Mattera and Dave Mazzoni teamed up during childhood in Philadelphia where they began their creative collaboration on film. Their first screenplay, Mectl, was selected as one of the top 250 out of 5,500 submissions in HBO’s Project Greenlight Competition in 2003. [1]
Mattera graduated with a B.A. in Film and Media Arts in 2004 from Temple University. He also holds a B.S. in Civil & Construction Engineering from Temple University which he received in 2002.[ citation needed ]
Tom Mattera directed his first feature film with Dave Mazzoni, The 4th Dimension , in 2006. Mattera and Mazzoni made the film for $75,000. [2] The film won the Grand Jury Honorable Mention Award at CineVegas in 2006, [3] the Technical Achievement Award at the Philadelphia Film Festival, and went on to screen at over 20 international film festivals.[ citation needed ] Michael Rechtshaffen of The Hollywood Reporter described the film as "stylistically channeling" the works of David Lynch and Darren Aronofsky. Mazzoni and Mattera directed their second independent feature, The Fields, a thriller starring Cloris Leachman and Tara Reid, released in 2011. The film takes place in a small Pennsylvania town in 1973, and tells the story of a young boy and his family as they are terrorized by an unseen presence in the surrounding fields. [4] Production spanned six weeks, throughout September and October 2009, and was shot entirely on location in the Pocono Mountains region in Kunkletown, Pennsylvania. [5] The Fields was signed to distribution company Breaking Glass pictures. [6]

Bad Santa is a 2003 American Christmas black comedy crime film directed by Terry Zwigoff, written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, and starring Billy Bob Thornton in the title role, with a supporting cast of Tony Cox, Lauren Graham, Brett Kelly, Lauren Tom, John Ritter, and Bernie Mac. It was Ritter's last live-action film appearance before his death on September 11, 2003. The film was dedicated to his memory. The Coen brothers are credited as executive producers. The film was released in North America on November 26, 2003, and was screened out of competition at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. It received positive reviews and was a commercial success.

Man on Wire is a 2008 documentary film directed by James Marsh. The film chronicles Philippe Petit's 1974 high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of New York's World Trade Center. It is based on Petit's 2002 book, To Reach the Clouds, released in paperback with the title Man on Wire. The title of the film is taken from the police report that led to the arrest of Petit, whose performance lasted for almost an hour. The film is crafted like a heist film, presenting rare footage of the preparations for the event and still photographs of the walk, alongside re-enactments and present-day interviews with the participants, including Barry Greenhouse, an insurance executive who served as the inside man.
