The decathlon is a combined event in athletics consisting of 10 track and field events. The word "decathlon" was formed, in analogy to the word "pentathlon", from Greek δέκα and ἄθλος. Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged on a points system in each event, not by the position achieved. The decathlon is contested mainly by male athletes, while female athletes typically compete in the heptathlon.
At the 1900 Summer Olympics, twenty-three athletics events were contested. Altogether, 117 athletes from 15 nations competed. A total of 68 medals were awarded. In many countries, due in part to the conflation of the Olympic Games and the World's Fair in Paris, the media discussed only the athletics events under the "Olympic" name while ignoring the incredible variety of other sports featured at the time.

Jackson Gill is a New Zealand track and field athlete who competes in the shot put. Gill throws with his right hand, using the spin technique. In 2010, he won gold in the shot put at the World Junior Championships at the age of 15 years, 213 days, which made him the youngest ever male gold medalist at the World Junior Championships. In 2012, he defended his title at the 2012 World Junior Championships.
Kevin Mayer is a French athlete specialising in decathlon and indoor heptathlon. He is two-time world champion, two-time Olympic silver medalist and the world record holder in the decathlon since 2018. He is also a world and three-time European champion in heptathlon.
Daniel Ståhl is a Swedish athlete specialising in the discus throw. Ståhl is the Olympic champion and two-time world champion, setting the new championships record in Budapest.
Ryan Crouser is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and discus. He specializes in the shot put, in which he is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a three-time World Champion. He holds the world record in the shot put, both indoors and outdoors. He set the outdoor world record at 23.56 meters in May 2023, improving upon his previous record of 23.37 m from July 2021. He has held the indoor record of 22.82 m since January 2021.
Connor Bell is New Zealand field athlete. He represented his country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and is a four-time national champion in the discus throw.
Mykolas Alekna is a Lithuanian athlete who specializes in the discus throw. He is the current world record holder of the event with 74.35 metres which will be subject to ratification. At the age of 19, he won the silver medal at the 2022 World Championships, becoming the youngest world discus medallist in history. Alekna was then the youngest ever winner in his discipline at the 2022 European Championships, setting the competition record in the process.
Léna Kandissounon is a French track and field athlete. In 2021 she became French national champion over 400m indoor.
Agathe Guillemot is a French middle-distance runner. In July 2023, she became the French national champion over 1500 metres. On 10 June 2024, she won the Bronze Medal in the 1500 metres at the 2024 European Athletics Championships.
Roje Stona is a Jamaican track and field athlete who competes in the discus throw.
Mallory Leconte is a French sprinter. She is a multiple-time French national champion over 100 metres and 60 metres.
Louise Maraval is a French hurdler and sprinter. In 2023, she became French national champion over 400 metres hurdles. In 2024, she won the silver medal at the European Championships.
Samantha Hall is a Jamaican discus thrower in which she is a multiple-time national champion.
