Thomas Jefferson Young (September 6,1902 - December 27,1964) was a Negro leagues catcher who played mostly for the Kansas City Monarchs. He also played for other teams. [1]
Young was native of Wetumpka,Alabama. He was the older brother of fellow Negro leaguer Maurice Young. [2] He died in Seattle,Washington in 1964 at age 62.[ citation needed ]
John Henry Lloyd,nicknamed "Pop" and "El Cuchara",was an American baseball shortstop and manager in the Negro leagues. During his 27-year career,he played for many teams and had a .343 batting average. Lloyd is considered to be the greatest shortstop in Negro league history,and he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.
Norman Thomas "Turkey" Stearnes was an American baseball outfielder in the Negro leagues. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.
Walter Fenner "Buck" Leonard was an American first baseman in Negro league baseball and in the Mexican League. After growing up in North Carolina,he played for the Homestead Grays between 1934 and 1950,batting fourth behind Josh Gibson for many years. The Grays teams of the 1930s and 1940s were considered some of the best teams in Negro league history. Leonard and Gibson are two of only nine players in league history to win multiple batting titles.
Benjamin Harrison Taylor was an American first baseman and manager in baseball's Negro leagues. Taylor played for the Birmingham Giants,Chicago American Giants,Indianapolis ABC's,St. Louis Giants,Bacharach Giants,Washington Potomacs,Harrisburg Giants,and Baltimore Black Sox. His playing career lasted from 1908 to 1929. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
