Bryne Fotballklubb is a professional football club located in Bryne, Norway, which competes in the 1. divisjon, the second tier of Norwegian football. Founded on 10 April 1926 as Bryne Fotball-lag, the club joined the Norwegian Football Federation in 1929 and has played its home matches at Bryne Stadion since 1945.
Viking Fotballklubb, commonly known as Viking or Viking Stavanger internationally, is a Norwegian football club from the city of Stavanger. The club was founded in 1899. Åge Fridtjof Hareide is a Norwegian football manager and player, currently managing the Iceland national team. In his playing career, he played for Hødd and Molde in Norway as well as Manchester City and Norwich City in England. Hareide was capped 50 times playing for Norway.

Stavanger Stadion is a multi-use stadium in Stavanger, Norway. It was used mostly for football matches and hosted the home matches of Viking FK. The stadium opened on 13 August 1917, and was able to hold 17,555 people at the end of its life as Viking's home ground in 2004. The west stand was the largest single-tier spectator stand in the country. The other stands were small roofless terraces without seating.

The 1979 Norwegian Football Cup was the 74th edition of the Norwegian annual knockout football tournament. The Cup was won by Viking after beating Haugar in the cup final with the score 2–1. This was Viking's third Norwegian Cup title.
The 1947 Norwegian Football Cup was the 42nd season of the Norwegian annual knockout football tournament. The tournament was open for all members of NFF, except those from Northern Norway. The final was played at Brann Stadion in Bergen on 19 October 1947, and Skeid secured their first title with a 2-0 win against Viking. Skeid had previously played two cup finals but lost both in 1939 and 1940, while it was Viking's second appearance in the final, having previously lost in 1933. Lyn were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Brann in the fourth round.
Svein Fjælberg is a Norwegian former football defender. He played 11 seasons for the Norwegian club Viking, where he won the league twice as well as two cup titles. Fjælberg was capped 33 times for Norway. After his retirement he served as the assistant coach of Viking on three occasions.

Inge Magnar Valen is a former Norwegian footballer from Stavanger. Valen was taken up in the Viking squad at the start of the so-called golden 70s when the Viking won the league title, and cup-gold in 1979. He played for Viking from 1972 to 1980, then played a few games in 1982 and 1985. He also played two matches for the Norway national football team. Valen was named midfielder of the year in 1974 by the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang. He played actively for Viking until 1979. Today he works for the youth-team of Viking FK. He has also held several positions in the club, including chairman. In 1974, on the day Viking won the league gold, his son, the comedian and imitator Kristian Valen, was born.
The 2017 Eliteserien was the 73rd completed season of top-tier football in Norway. The season began on 1 April 2017 and ended on 26 November 2017, not including play-off matches. This was first season of Eliteserien as rebranding from Tippeligaen. Rosenborg were the defending champions, while Kristiansund and Sandefjord entered as the promoted teams from the 2016 1. divisjon.
The 1989 Norwegian Football Cup final was the 84th final of the Norwegian Football Cup. The final took place at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo on 22 October 1989. Viking were in their 8th final, while Molde were in their second final after losing the 1982 final against Brann and therefore had the chance to win the first trophy in the club's history.
The 1982 season was Molde's 9th season in the top flight of Norwegian football and their first since their promotion from 2. divisjon in 1981. This season Molde competed in 1. divisjon and the Norwegian Cup.
