History

Tonson Group was founded in 2006 by Chachchon Ratanarak. The Ratanarak family have substantial holdings in a number of Thai-based companies including Bank of Ayudhya, Siam City Cement, Allianz Ayudhya Capital, Matching Maximize Studio, Medial Studio, Grand Canal Land and Eastern Star Real Estate as well as holding a majority stake in Bangkok Broadcasting & Television Company (BBTV), which operates Thailand's Channel 7.

Tonson Group has diversified investments in Thailand and internationally. Areas of particular focus include property and construction, leisure, media, new media and technology. [1] Tonson Group has a team of senior analysts supporting its investment strategy and operating in an advisory capacity within the Ratanarak Group.

Tonson Group’s office is in Tonson Tower, a prime office building in Ploenchit, Bangkok which, along with neighbouring Ploenchit Tower, is owned by the Ratanarak Group. [2]

Tonson Property, a subsidiary of Tonson Group, is one of the three property development companies in the Ratanarak Group. Tonson Group is developing Tonson Property as a luxury and ultra-prime property brand specialising in contemporary minimalist architecture and design. [3]

Involvement with Rama III District

Chachchon’s father Krit Ratanarak is reported to be taking a lead in the development of Bangkok’s Rama III Riverside district in the central south west of the city. [4] [5] The Rama III area was referred to as ‘the Wall Street of Bangkok’ before the 1996 financial crisis. [6] Today it is again regarded as an up-and-coming district of central Bangkok amid long-term moves to redevelop the area in the same fashion as London’s Canary Wharf. [6] [7] In 2010, the Rama III area saw the second highest increase in condominium prices in central Bangkok after the central business district. [8]

The Rama III area has ample undeveloped land in large parcels that runs along the river and some of the city’s best transport infrastructure, including the Bhumibol Bridge named after Thailand’s king who inaugurated the new bridge in 2010. [6] [9] [10] Rama III has been identified by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration as part of a zone to be developed as a model of environmentally friendly mass transit system. [11] The Rama III riverside area was unaffected by the severe flooding that submerged many areas of Bangkok in November 2011. [12]

Tonson Group’s first development in Rama III is an ultra-prime condominium project called The Sathu Residences. [3]

Samut Prakan province Province of Thailand

Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand Paribatra is a Thai politician belonging to the Democrat Party. From 2009 to 2016 he was the Governor of Bangkok. He was removed from the post in October 2016 by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha who used Section 44 of the interim charter to remove the elected official. The reason given for his ouster was "...because he was involved in many legal cases." He was replaced by Police General Aswin Kwanmuang.

Rama VIII Bridge Bridge in Bangkok, Thailand

The Rama VIII Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand. It was built to alleviate traffic congestion on the nearby Phra Pinklao Bridge. Construction of the bridge took place from 1999 to 2002. The bridge was opened on 7 May 2002 and inaugurated on 20 September, the birth anniversary of the late King Ananda Mahidol, after whom it is named. The bridge has an asymmetrical design, with a single pylon in an inverted Y shape on the west bank of the river. Its eighty-four cables are arranged in pairs on the side of the main span and in a single row on the other. The bridge has a main span of 300 metres (980 ft), and was one of the world's largest asymmetrical cable-stayed bridges at the time of its completion.

Kitiyakara Voralaksana, 1st Prince of Chanthaburi was a Prince of Siam, a member of the Siamese Royal Family. He originated the House of Kitiyakara (ราชสกุลกิติยากร). His descendants use this royal surname. He is the paternal grandfather of Queen Sirikit, consort of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Through Sirikit he is also the maternal great-grandfather of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who has been King of Thailand since 2016.

Chachchon Ratanarak is one of Thailand’s most distinguished business figures and the third generation of the Ratanarak family. He is currently the chairperson of Tonson Group, a privately-owned group of companies.

Sucharit Suda Royal Concubine of Rama VI

Phra Sucharit Suda, formerly Prueng Sucharitakul, daughter of Chao Phraya Sudharm Montri, was the High concubine of King Rama VI. She was a cousin from his mother's side. Chao Phraya Sudharm Montri was Princess Piyamavadi Sri Bajarindra Mata's younger brother's son. She fell out of favour, and was replaced by her younger sister, who finally became a queen - Queen Indrasakdi Sachi.

Chuan Ratanarak was a self-made Thai businessman who built one of the largest and most powerful business empires in Thailand. Starting with nothing, Chuan was one of the legendary generation of Chinese merchants in Thailand to achieve success in one generation. By the time of his death in August 1993, age 73, Chuan was at the head of one of the three dominant business families in Thailand - the others being the Sophonpanich family and the Lamsam family - and the business group Chuan had created, the Ratanarak Group, included Thailand's most successful terrestrial broadcaster, a major retail banking and insurance group and the country's second largest cement producer. Comparing Thai and US entrepreneurs, Professor Krishnamra, Director of the Sasin Business School at Thailand's Chulalongkorn University, has said “given the size of the market and the stage of development, Chuan as an entrepreneur was comparable to the Vanderbilts or Rockefellers”. Chuan is the father of Krit Ratanarak and the grandfather of Chachchon Ratanarak.

The year 2007 was the 226th year of the Rattanakosin Kingdom of Thailand. It was the 62nd year in the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and is reckoned as year 2550 in the Buddhist Era.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Death and funeral of Bhumibol Adulyadej</span> Remembering the late king of Thailand

King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand died at the age of 88 on 13 October 2016, after a long illness. A year-long period of mourning was subsequently announced. A royal cremation ceremony took place over five days at the end of October 2017. The actual cremation, which was not broadcast on television, was held in the late evening of 26 October 2017. Following cremation his remains and ashes were taken to the Grand Palace and were enshrined at the Chakri Maha Phasat Throne Hall, the Royal Cemetery at Wat Ratchabophit and the Wat Bowonniwet Vihara Royal Temple. Following burial, the mourning period officially ended on midnight of 30 October 2017 and Thais have resumed wearing regular colours.

Chan Road

Chan Road, also known as Trok Chan, is a road and neighbourhood in Bangkok. It's a separate from Nang Linchi road in the area of Thung Maha Mek sub-district, Sathon district and runs through Chan - Naradhiwas intersection which meet Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra road. In this phase, it also acts as a line between Sathon district's Thung Wat Don and Yan Nawa district's Chong Nonsi sub-district, then through two more intersections viz Tai Duan Chan junction and Sathu - Chan junction as far as end at Trok Chan junction, which it meet to Charoen Krung road in the area of Wat Phraya Krai sub-district, Bang Kho Laem district. Total distance is 7.0 km. At the end of the road on Charoen Krung side is close to two historic sites are Asiatique The Riverfront, originally, it was the location of the Danish maritime navigation company East Asiatic Company and Protestant Cemetery, include another place of education is Shrewsbury International School.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Road</span>

Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Road is a road in central Bangkok. It is a main transport route in the area of Bang Rak, Sathon and Yan Nawa districts. It's an eight-lane reinforced concrete road in the form of boulevard with a width of 60 metres (200 ft), a distance of 5,115 kilometres (3,178 mi). Starting from Surawong road in Suriyawong sub-district, Bang Rak district and heading southeast parallel to Khlong Chong Nonsi, then cut with Si Lom road in the Si Lom sub-district, Bang Rak district, then cut with Sathon road in the area of Sathon district. The road in this portion is a boundary line between Thung Maha Mek and Yan Nawa sub-districts of Sathon district. Therefrom cut with Chan road in the area of Chong Nonsi sub-district, Yan Nawa district and cut with Ratchadaphisek road until end of convergence with Rama III road at Rama III - Naradhiwas junction or Chong Nonsi junction.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bang Phongphang</span> Sub-district in Bangkok, Thailand

Bang Phongphang is one of the two khwaengs (sub-districts) of Yan Nawa District, Bangkok, apart from Chong Nonsi. In December 2018 it had a population of 29,754 people, with total area of 6.678 km2. The sub-district is also divided into seven communities.

The Ratanarak family is a Chinese-Thai business family, which has extensive holdings in multiple industries. The family was founded by Chuan Ratanarak, who immigrated to Thailand in 1926 at the age of six. He founded the Bank of Ayudhya, Siam City Cement and Bangkok Broadcasting & TV. Chuan's son Krit inherited the leadership of these companies, and Krit's son Chachchon is founder of the Tonson Group, the family's investment arm.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rama III Road</span>

Rama III Road is one main road in inner Bangkok. The 12 km (7.5 mi) long road runs along the bend of Chao Phraya River on the Phra Nakhon side all the route.
