Topo Island is an island located in the Topo town area of Badagry Local Government of Lagos State, in South-west Nigeria. The island was home to the Society of African Missions (SMA) missionaries who built a Chapel, Convent, Teacher training college, cemetery and also a coconut plantation. The island was later abandoned in 1962 when the missionaries left and the locals also left once the plantation could no longer support them.
The island is known for coconut plantation, [1] [2] tourism attractions, and Catholics [3] pilgrimage to a site where an early missionary cemetery is located. [4]
Lagos is the largest city in Nigeria and the second most populous city in Africa, with a population of 15.4 million as of 2015 within the city proper - daily the Lagos area is growing by some 3,000 people, or around 1.1 million annually, so the true population figure of the greater Lagos area in 2022 is roughly 28 million. Lagos is also among the top ten of the world's fastest-growing cities and urban areas. The megacity has the fourth-highest GDP in Africa and houses one of the largest and busiest seaports on the continent. The Lagos metropolitan area is a major educational and cultural centre in Sub Saharan Africa.
The Church of Nigeria is the Anglican church in Nigeria. It is the second-largest province in the Anglican Communion, as measured by baptised membership, after the Church of England. As of 2016 it gives its membership as "over 18 million", out of a total Nigerian population of 190 million. It is "effectively the largest province in the Communion." As measured by active membership, the Church of Nigeria has nearly 2 million active baptised members. According to a study published by Cambridge University Press in The Journal of Anglican Studies, there are between 4.94 and 11.74 million Anglicans in Nigeria. The Church of Nigeria is the largest Anglican province on the continent of Africa, accounting for 41.7% of Anglicans in Sub-Saharan Africa, and is "probably the first [largest within the Anglican Communion] in terms of active members."
Lagos State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. Of the 36 states, it is both the most populous and smallest in area. Bounded to the south by the Bight of Benin and to the west by the international border with Benin Republic, Lagos State borders Ogun State to the east and north making it the only Nigerian state to border only one other state. As Governor of Lagos, his administration supervised the unpopular demolition of the Ajele Cemetery in the early 1970s.

Lateef Kayode Jakande was a Nigerian journalist who became governor of Lagos State in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983, and later Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime (1993–98). He died on 11 February 2021, at the age of 91 years.

Badagry Festival is an annual event held in Badagry, a town in Lagos State, Nigeria. It is organised by the African Renaissance Foundation (AREFO). The event reflects the significance of the ancient town during the slave trade era. It is a convergence of culture and display of African heritage. The organizer brings the indegine and culture-loving fans from around the world to celebrate the festival. One of the major highlights is the artistic display by masquerades, dancers, and fire eaters. It features football competition, the beating of Sato drum, and Liberation Day Celebration.
The Velekete Slave Market is a market located in Badagry, Lagos State. Established in 1502 and named after the Velekete deity, the goddess of the ocean and wind the market was significant during the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade in Badagry, as it served as a business point where African middlemen sold slaves to European slave merchants, thus making it one of the most populous slave markets in West Africa.
Abubakar Abubakar Kabir is a politician, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is a current member of the Federal House of Representatives, and the Chairman of the Committee on Works. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress party, representing the Bichi Federal Constituency.
The First Christian Missionary Cemetery in Nigeria, also known as the Early Christian Missionary Cemetery in Badagry, is a graveyard where 19th- and 20th-century European Christian Missionaries who died in Badagry town and its environs were buried. The burial site in located along the town's General Hospital Road. It's Plus Code coordinates on Google Maps is CV7Q+CPR, 103101, Badagry, Nigeria. Some record say that over 200 missionaries were buried here. An obelisk was erected in memory of the dead missionaries. Today, the cemetery is one of the historical sites that attract tourists into Badagry town.
