Torrey C. Harris (born March 12,1991) is an American politician serving as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives from the 91st district. [1] Elected in 2020,he assumed office on January 12,2021.
Alongside Eddie Mannis,Harris was one of the first two openly-LGBT state representatives elected in Tennessee. [2]
Torrey challenged incumbent John DeBerry who had re-registered as independent in 2020. Torrey had defeated DeBerry with 77.3% of the vote. [3]
After being redistricted to District 91,comprising much of Midtown and other east Memphis neighborhoods,he won in an uncontested general election after defeating a Democratic challenger in the primary.
On July 17,2022,Harris was arrested for felony theft and misdemeanor assault,after police were called by Harris' ex-boyfriend. [4]
